Engineer - I am very proud of the title/occupation/mindset of being an Engineer. Without Engineers to turn scientific knowledge into useful tools, we would still be in the stone age. I enjoy figuring out how things work and how to make them work better. Ich bin Ingenieur.
Environmentalist - I try to do my part by recycling, and bicycling to work 3-4 times a week.
Vegetarian - I do not eat meat, nor fish, nor fowl, nor snails, nor insects. I hate how specific I have to be but I am always surprised by people who think vegetarians eat fish. I started when I was 12 just after getting back from a family trip to England. I decided to stop eating other animals for spiritual reasons. Occasionally I have flirted with the idea of being Vegan because I feel bad that the milk and eggs I eat were from animals in typically inhumane conditions. But I don't because Teresa isn't and it would be too much right now. It gives me something to aspire to.
Aspie - I have Asperger's Syndrome. This condition makes social situations difficult for me to navigate. Over the years I have created scripts to help me deal with other people, but I still get it wrong. I tend to offend people without realizing it.
Buffy I am the director of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Shadow Cast called Vampire Bunny Slayers . We will be performing at the next Buffy the Musical Sing-a-long at the Loft in Tucson. See TucsonBuffyCast if you want to Join the cast. We are always looking for new members.
Sex Positive Straight Edge - I do not do non prescription drugs, alcohol, caffeine(mostly) or tobacco and I am vegetarian.
Buddhist - While my belief system most closely resembles Buddhism, I use Wiccan rituals in my life.
Student - I am now finished with my MBA at UWW-Whitewater. I am taking a break from formal school for now while I think of something else to study. I am trying to learn German on my own right now, maybe I'll take a class later.
Yoga - I am taking Bikram Yoga classes 3-5 times a week. In just the past few months I have regained so much flexibility. This style of Yoga is done in a high humidity(40%), high temperature room (104F), I never used to like to sweat, but now it is great. Plus it helps dealing with the desert heat. Update: due to time constraints I can not take that classes I want right now (riding my bike to work takes up too much time), hopefully soon I will be able to return to it
Reader - I love to read, especially science fiction/fantasy and about current events. I subscribe to Newsweek , Scientific American , and IEEE Spectrum . I enjoy books that make me think about how to make the world a better place.
Podcasts - I listen to several podcasts regularly; KQED's Fourm, WHYY's Radio Times, APM: MarketPlace, APM: Future Tense, Polyamory Weekly (minx is awesome), Science Friday, Slate Magazine, The President's Weekly Radio Address (a parody), and Travel with Rick Steves (among several others).
Traveler - I love to travel, but don't get to do much of it. Right after graduation in 1999, I spent 6 weeks in Europe visiting 10 countries!
Ren Faire Geek - Every year since 1998 I have participated in the NorCal Renaissance Faire . Now that I live in Tucson, I have only been able to make one to three weekends a year. I even own the Arizona RENFAIR license plate.
Weekends - On a Friday or Saturday night you are likely to find me at a bookstore , watching improve comedy , the Loft , out Contra Dancing<>, or at DD .
Other sites I visit to find stuff to do in Tucson are: Tucson Scene , Rialto Theatre , Arizona Browncoats , Laffs Comedy Club , Valley of The Moon , The Asylum , Tucson Weekly Events , Hotel Congress , and AZ Daily Star Calendar .
Polyamory - I believe that love knows no limits and that its possible to be involved with, and love, more than one person at a time. I am in a polyamorous relationship with my wife and her boyfriend. Love shared is love multiplied and sorrow halved.
Heteroflexible - I do not believe I am bisexual, in that I am really not turned on by guys, but a good kiss is a GOOD kiss and a good romp is a GOOD romp.
Activist - I consider myself a social Liberal and a fiscal libertarian on most issues. The issues I am most passionate about right now are Education, Health-care, Fiscal Responsibility (On all levels), Animal Rights, Transportation, Marriage Rights for non-traditional commitments, and the Environment.
I spend a lot of time thinking about how to fix the world. Some recent questions have included:-
How to fix the health care system in the US?
Why mass transit sucks in most cities?
How to lift people out of poverty?
How could more than half the US population be stupid enough to vote for Bush again?
Why the government is so involved in people's lives? (Such as Marriage, drugs, prostitution, and pornography/erotica)
How we can win the war in Iraq?
Why diplomacy is better than force?
Why are states such as Arizona and Oregon doing things so much better than California?
Why our educational system is not the great equalizer it once was?
Why can't my tongue touch my nose?
Why people are so concerned about what other people think?
Why do prisons spend more time on punishing people than rehabilitating them?
Why do people still need to kill and eat animals?
How can I make more money?
How can I be less material oriented?
Why people believe that their religion is so special that it allows them to kill other people with impunity?
