Holy Abraham

I descended from the house of Shem, son of Noah. My original name was Abram which means "exalted father". I have a lovely wife Sarah. Me and my family lived in Ur of the Chaldeans where I received my call from God to go to Canaan and settle there. Wit the call was God's promises: a land to posses, greatness or fame, prosperity, protection and blessings upon my descendants; in return we shall become a blessing to other nations.(Gen. 12:1-9). I obeyed the divine directives and journeyed towards God's promise land, Canaan. My unquestioning faith in God sustained me throughout the long and difficult journey toward Canaan. Although me and my wife were old already God promised us a son with whom God will establish His covenant. However, years passed and no son came. Sarah gave her maidservant Hagar,to me and Hagar bore me a son, Ishmael meaning God hears. But God did not forget His promise. When I was 99 years old God confirmed His covenant and promised me a son Isaac, with whom God will establish an everlasting covenant for me and my descendants (Gen. 17:19). This was then God changed my name to Abraham that means "father of a multitude of nations". The change of name is an indication of the change of status that occurs when the covenant is established, signifying a new identity in relation to the name-giver. My faith in God was severely tested when God asked me to sacrifice my son, Isaac to Him. (Gen.22). I stood the test and was credited as righteous and faithful. Many Christians call me the "Father of Faith". I was very consistent in my faith in God. My response to God's promises and commands was faithfulness and obedience.
