As long as they gaze on Waterloo Sunset, they are in Paradise...

About Me

Voice like an angel, gait of a Rottweiler, and a mind full of zombies, 80's Sci-Fi TV, and key lime pie.
Delirium Nocturnum is the nectar of the gods; a gift which I value more than day-trading and modular housing, but not more than the lever and the water screw. I love the crackle 'n' pop sound that a record makes when it's played. Without Photoshop, I would go crazy, not to mention that it has a lot to do with my chosen profession, so I'd probably be licking string cheese wrappers and drinking from the Logan Square fountain while trying to figure out what grate to plant my cardboard love-nest on for the winter. For the life of me, I don't understand why people wear pointy shoes. If I was given the just one meal to eat for the rest of my life, it'd be the #9 from Misora Express. Large families make me uneasy. When I was younger, I used to make little towns out of styrofoam and then pretend I was Todzilla. I hate riding in the back seat. I can fix virtually anything that's broken, and/or break stuff just to see if I can fix it. I lie to tele-marketers when they ask for me by name, but I'm always curious as to what they're offering me. I like adjectives. I hate the smell of latex that permeates Spencer's and Halloween Adventure shops. I'm not openly confrontational, but I am very protective of my friends.

My Interests

I like pretty much anything to do with water, except drowning. Upon recently discovering the joys of Limewire, I've been cramming my iPod with as much music as I can get my paws on. I have an unhealthy obsession for all things zombie, but more so for the socio-political commentary that goes with any good (non-religious) story of the apocalyse. I miss sitting in someone's basement/garage/playroom making low-fi music on a four track, but there just isn't enough time in a day to fit that in. Actually, a majority of my former jam buddies are married with children, and I curse too much. When the weather calls for it, I like to snowboard, though it's been a while since I've actually gone. I sure do like all that Ben Sherman stuff...just wish I could fit into it more easily - I swear the stuff's made for heroin addicts.

I'd like to meet:

Someone to eat my pickle, but leave my fries alone. The nameless hordes that share my addiction to electronic solitaire games. People who use words like "sans" in their daily vocabulary, or are currently learning how to do so. The Chicken Littles of the world. Swindlers. Retired Astronauts. A girl named Tomie. Tortured souls trapped in Zuni dolls. Anyone who can teach me Khoisan, or any other proto-language. Simon Pegg and Ed Wright. John Favreau. Jeremy Piven. Steve Albini. Jeff Pezzati. Josh Agle. Robt Williams. Myself, circa 1988. Animal Chin. The Animal Chin.

And if none of the above apply, that's cool too. Maybe we both can learn something from one another. I'm looking to link up with old friends and meet new ones.

Music:

I enjoy concept albums.

I've tried to listen to the entire 17 minute track of Iron Butterfly's Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida , but my attention span won't allow me to get past 4 or 5 minutes of it.

I don't listen to the radio (except for sometimes in the car during my suck-commute to work, which is reserved for Preston & Steve). I don't watch MTV. I rely on my good friends (and random strangers) to supply me with tunes. If you invite me over, I will plunder your computer for music.

I love music. Yes, like the Ojay's song. But I differ in that it doesn't have to be groovy...pretty much everything (as long as it's not modern country or sung by James Taylor...James Vernon Taylor, not James JT Taylor). Secret Machines, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, The Kooks, Richard Cheese, Eels, Gorillaz, Radio 4, Black Flag, Minor Threat, DOA, AOD, SOD, GBH (Charged or otherwise), MOD (I swear I'm not making up acronyms!), NoMeansNo, Bad Brains, Fugazi's first three releases, Misfits, Crumbsuckers, Dayglo Abortions, Big Black, Descendents, Social D, 7 Seconds, Dead Kennedys, Corrosion of Conformity, Exploited, Buzzcocks, New York Dolls, Wire, Gang of Four, Mumps, T-Rex, Sweet, Big Star, MC5, Radio Birdman, The Monks, The Dictators, Hawkwind, Roxy Music, Velvet Underground, Iggy & his Stooges, Bowie, Queen, Bowie & Queen together, Dylan (Bob), Hendrix (James Marshall), Zeppelin (Led), Van Halen (& Van Hagar), The Police, some Rush, old Floyd (Pink), Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, 3 Inches of Blood, good ol' 80's hair rock like Dokken & the Scorpions, anything involving Ronnie James Dio, pre-Black album Metallica, Anthrax, Armored Saint, George Clinton & P-Funk, 1969-1976 Kool & the Gang (okay, Ladies Night is a cool tune, but if I hear Celebration one more time, I'm gonna vomit midgets all up in this place), Jamiroquai, Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, the Isley Brothers, the Reverend Al Green, The Reverend Horton Heat, Amazing Royal Crowns, Stray Cats, etc...oh, and that song Diz-knee-land that was so popular in the early 90's.

This is by no means a complete collection of the music I listen to, I'm just getting bored...

Here, make your own damn music...

Punk-O-Matic

Movies:

Films by Danny Boyle/Andrew MacDonald. Japanese sci-fi and horror. Most films by Steven Soderbergh...at least the ones where David Holmes did the music. German-made WWII movies. Old Universal and Hammer horror flicks. Movies with giant monsters randomly destroying real estate with extreme prejudice. The original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies (or trilogi...whatever the plural of 'trilogy' is), the ones without needing to adjust the plot to reflect the 'signs of the times', nor replacing one really stupid end scene where little furry creatures are dancing around in celebration of an evil empire's destruction with yet another really stupid end scene, with more computer-generated little furry creatures dancing around in celebration of a vastly larger and even more computer-generated evil empire's destruction.
Other random favorites, in no particular order: The Golden Child, The Big Lebowski, Freejack, Mad Max (Road Warrior and Thunderdome), Shaun of the Dead, Buckaroo Banzai, The Neverending Story, Return of the Living Dead, Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, Our Man Flint, Outland, The Fifth Element, and Romero's 1985 classic - Day of the Dead.
I can also quote the film appearances of former SNL star Garret Morris.

Television:

Airwolf, Battlestar Gallactica, Buck Rogers, What's Happenin', Incredible Hulk, Voyagers, Perfect Strangers, Automan, V the Series, Otherworld, A-Team, CHiPs, Fantasy Island, ALF, Greatest American Hero, Bosom Buddies, Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, and Miami Vice. Saturday morning, I'm all about Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors, Superfriends, Rubik the Amazing Cube, Q*Bert, the Real Ghostbusters, Dragons Lair/Space Ace, Droids/Ewoks, Hulk Hogan's Rock'n'Wrestlin', Dungeons & Dragons, PeeWee's Playhouse, Flash Gordon, Fang Face, Frankenstones, Pole Position, The Mighty Orbots, Inhumanoids, Trollkins, Galaxy Rangers, Centurions, Galaxy High, and then bugging my cousin while she watches Monchichis and Menudo - after school it's Robotech, G.I. Joe, Silverhawks, Thunder Cats, Star Blazers, Transformers, Brave Starr, M.A.S.K., Heathcliff, Josie & the Pussycats in Outer Space, and Danger Mouse just before Mom gets home.
But let's fast-forward to today...
Re-runs of Friends and King of Queens. Heroes. The Gilmore Girls (Those who've caught it know that I don't have to explain myself). Law & Order SVU. I've been known to watch marathons of The Twilight Zone and M*A*S*H straight through, much to the dismay of my friends and family, who are the ones that get ditched as I lay watching on the couch with a bag of Cheetos rice cakes and a pot of Jasmine tea. Same goes for old Star Trek, though it's only worth watching the odd-numbered shows.
I hate that my cable bill is the most expensive utility I have, but Shark Week alone is worth it. And Entourage. And Flight of the Conchords. Oh, and John From Cincinnati.
I've been watching as much as the Sasuke and Kunoichi competitions on G4 as I can...there's just nothing like an extreme obstacle course.

Books:

I read more than watch TV - I guess subconsciously to better prepare myself for the possibility that one day electricity will stop working, causing long spouts of boredom for non-recreational readers, and since I live alone, the lost art of conversation would be, well, lost on me (I really don't get along with myself for more than a few minutes at a time). Though I guess if I subscribe to this theory, I'll need to work on my low-light reading skills. But I digress.Books by Bernard Cornwell (the Richard Sharpe series and Redcoat, to name a few) and Simon Scarrow (the Under the Eagle series). I really enjoyed The Sex Lives of Cannibals by J. Maarten Troost, but it's not what you think. I also enjoy horror anthologies - the Autumn series by David Moody (as well as his new one, Hater), Monster Island and Monster Nation by David Wellington, the Reign of the Dead series by Len Barnhart, The Rising and City of the Dead by Brian Keene, and the Cal MacDonald books by Steve Niles.
Also, check out Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez.
Alternatively, I do curl up with a good graphic novel now and again.

Heroes:

Chenault, and the entire A.V.G. Pancho the Bull, midget wrestler. Gil Gerard. Han Solo. Wavin' Willie Spranger. Midget Kiss cover bands. Ferris Bueller. Boba Fett. Perfect Tommy from the Hong Kong Cavaliers . Richard Sharpe. Jhonen Vasquez, who allegedly spent it all on video games. James Gunn, who has a million and a half reasons. Jack "What the Hell" Burton.
