About Me

JASON WEEMS is an AUSTIN,TX based SINGER/SONGWRITER, who’s live performances have become staples of the Austin Acoustic Scene. He’s a Kerrville Folk Fest - Regional New Folk Winner(2006), and has penned over 400 songs. Whether Jason is performing a well crafted ballad or a high energy, grooved out hip-shaker, his Audiences are always moved.
Jason’s musical life started as a small child in the Pentecostal churches of Wichita Falls in North Central Texas. He learned improv and group dynamic early and trained with many talented Composer/Directors such as Milton Bourgeois, & Douglas Parish. Jason quickly learned Piano, Bass Guitar, as well as Acoustic & Electric Guitar, and song writing. He trained for six years with John Tunnel on the Euphonium a.k.a Baritone horn, and while lurking in his school’s band hall, Jason also learned the rest of the brass instruments and couldn’t help picking up a love for woodwinds that persists to this day.
Jason's band experiences have ranged from Christian Rock, Alt Country, Folk Rock, Folk Metal, Pop, College Rock, and Funk/Groove. He's been everything from the roadie /sound guy, to the bassist back up singer, to the frontman leading the march. This eclectic mix of backgrounds have melded themselves together to create a live show experience that is high energy while intimate, his presentation drawing in elements from all of his pieces and coming up with something more than the sum of the parts.
If you ask Jason, he’ll tell you that his real musical love is language, the words, the journey inside of a song, which makes sense when you take time to listen to his lyrically weighty offerings. These stories capture the listener and in that Mezmer’s trance, wrap them in the world of the song. Interestingly, Jason’s most intimate songs are often the very songs that are the most universal. It’s as if Jason is consistently able to tap into a basic truth that he illustrates with parables taken out of scenes from his daily life.
In addition to his performance career, Jason Weems also works with the Kerrville Folk Festival & Southwest Regional Folk Alliance as their Production Manager. He founded the Austin SongWriter Showcase which is enjoying it’s 4th Year at Trophy’s Bar on South Congress. The Showcase has featured over 500 artists from all over America and 12 other Countries.
You can buy music from Jason Weems online or at shows, and he has a new album titled “Twister” due for release in late May.,br/
