Emerging Artist LIZA E.A. BRIGGS was born and raised in a family of musicians and artists in Portsmouth,Virginia. She has lived in Washington D.C. for about 15 years.
Despite having painted for many years, Liza has only recently begun exhibiting and selling her work. Liza's paintings consist of bold brushtrokes, color, and shapes that communicate the rich characteristics of human form and human emotion.
Her preferred medium is acrylic on paper and canvas but she is starting to dabble in oils!! A student for life, Liza has degrees in Psychology and Education. She is completing her doctoral studies in International Policy Studies at The University of Maryland. Until recently, Liza traveled to Africa extensively for the U.S. Dept of Defense. Now she is on hiatus from full-time work so that she can fast track her PhD studies. Her dissertation studies focus on children orphaned because of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Interesting,Creative People....Like YOU!!!

Music:

I grew up surrounded by jazz, gospel and latin music. My dad is a musician, my mom sang, my sister is an established jazz/latin/gospel/new age/r& b violinist. The music scene at home was like something you'd expect to see in a movie.
Most weekends my aunts and uncles would hold jam sessions at my house. FREE CONCERTS EVERY WEEKEND!!!! It sounds cool now but back then other kids thought my family was weird. We always had a piano in the living room. Folks would come to our house, drink, talk trash, and play music. The musicians had cool names like Mr. Lee, Mason, Bagsby and Aunt Eggie to name just a few. My dad called people cats. (LOL)
I have fond memories of my dad smoking cigarettes, drinking fine wine(Ripple), and serenading me with his own renditions of songs like, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". He would change the words and sing lines like, "somewhere over the ghetto ni%$$&*s fly, If ni%$$&*s can fly over the rainbow, why then oh why can't I?"..... It is kind of crazy, right? But it is all 100% true.

Television:

I'd rather talk to people. The real news is in our hearts.

Books:

I'm a professional student. I read constantly but the idea of talking about what I read seems kind of BORING to me right now. I just ordered two books on ethnography.

Heroes:

I don't have any real heroes but I admire qualities in a lot of people, even folks whose ideas and perspectives I don't agree with.

Tales of the Budding Music Prodigy

When my big sister's music powers started coming out, we all had to make adjustments. One such time was when sis was discovering that she had an exceptional ear or in musician...
