by: Alexia Timothy1. How did you get the name REIGNMAN?Before, my name used to be Black Rain. Then, I started to play around with it and I realized in the industry, anything you do has to have to respect of the people. So I renamed myself Respect Everything I Gain (REIGNMAN).2. Has being an artist something you always wanted to do? If yes, what did you do I order to put your name out there?Yes, ever since I was little I wanted to be an artist. My mother and brother were singers, so watching them inspired me to want to be an artist. As far as putting my name out there, I started battling in the streets. Then, I tried out for Making The Band and I was a part of that along with E-Ness, but I wasn’t feeling it, so I left. I also won the MTV battle. So, basically anything that’s nationwide, I’m gonna do it.3. How do you balance work and family life?It’s easy for me because I lost my mother and brother and my other family members don’t live close to me, so that really isn’t a problem. And when I just started out, I didn’t have kids. But now I have a son and I enjoy taking him to the studio with me. So right now because my son is still young, it’s pretty easy for me.4. How do you feel about philly radio playing philly artists’ music?I’m not really feeling philly radio right now. I feel that if you don’t have those connections via the radio, no love is gonna be coming you’re way. And there are so many good artists out there that are not getting love because they don’t have that help.5. What do you think about philly artists’ struggle in hip hop?I believe philly has some of the most talented MCs, but their struggling in hip hop because their struggling with each other. In other states, MCs show each other love, but in philly, it’s always a competition.6. What events and performances do you have coming up?As far as performances, there aren’t too many because right now I’m focusing on closing this record deal. And I should be signed within the next month. So, I’ll be announcing that when it happens. And with events, I have a series out that’s called The Man That Will Be King, The Man That Will Be King 1.5- Best Of REIGNMAN, along with a DVD. The Man That Will Be King Part 2-No Retreat No Surrender will be coming out soon. I’ll also be coming out with a mixtape called The Trinity- The Reincarnation with Reed Dollaz and Eddie Morris. And I just finished a movie called Dead Enemies which features myself along with Eddie Morris, Frank Witdagrippaz and Lenny “Lennox†Rankins from Belly. That should be coming out within the next two to three months.7. What advice would you give to aspiring artists?I’d say don’t take no for an answer.
