About Me

Get Your Own! | View SlideshowBorn and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Broomes took a break from getting his associates degree at New York City Technical College to start an internship for a major, music video directing guru in January of 1998. That’s where he decided to delve into his life long passion of being a film storyteller. He started by reading many books on the subject. After a year of interning, working on major music videos and motion picture productions, Mr. Broomes took a ten-day continuing education course called ‘Introduction to Filmmaking’ at School of Visual Arts. Here, he shot his first short film “Karma” on black & white Super 8mm film while constantly being reminded by his instructor that the course was not film school. He was soon hired to direct an industrial film off the strength of “Karma.” Afterwards, he went back to college for his associate’s degree while joining the school’s drama club to hone his skills as an actor’s director. He then landed a job to finance his film endeavors. Since then, Clayton Broomes, Jr. had gone on to write, direct, produce and edit five more short films, including “The Dead Guy” and “Alone,” both screening at the 2005 and 2006 Roxbury Film Festivals. The latter film was also screened at the 2006 Imagenation Film Festival and Urban Mediamakers Film Festival. He completed five feature length screenplays, one titled “Black Roses” that was a finalist in the Drama category at the 2005 Worldfest International Film Festival Screenplay competition, which ultimately landed the script in Zoetrope.com’s Screenplay Hall of Fame. He also created an independent drama series titled “Everybody’s Doing It” that went on to win the 2005 Gold Remi Award for TV-Series Dramatic at the Worldfest International Film Festival. Serving as his own cinematographer on every one of his projects enabled him to do the same for other filmmakers. “Materially Inclined,” his latest short film, will be ready by the fall of 2007. Meanwhile, Mr. Broomes will be in pre-production for his first feature length film.
