FAQ: [updated may 23 2007]
Q: What is your favorite compressor?
A: Do I have to pick one...? I guess the 1176 (mine are modified with Neve trafo's) or a Distressor, or a 1969, or a LTD-2 ??
Q: Why do you still use an analogue mixer, when you can do everything on a computer?
A: Why not? I like it better! Don't wanne get into the whole analogue / digital discussion, where people try to A/B both media. For me it's all about functionallity and quality. I mix way faster on a good analogue desk than with a mouse, and so far I liked the results better. That's all that counts for me.
Q: How long does it take you to mix a song?
A: Well... the only right answer is: "it depends"... I am sorry, there's NO RULE. I've done 6 songs a day, but I also took 1,5 day for just one song...
Arrangement / genre / vibe / quality of musicians / quality of recording / quality of the songwriting / how many tracks were used / how many mistakes do I have to fix / etc. etc.
Q: What's your favorite plugin?
A: Don't use many plugs... Maybe I have to pick MondoMod (by waves).
Q: What;s your favorite mic?
A: U47 (or the Sounddelux E47). I also like the Horch. RM2J very much
Q: What's your best mix ever?
A: I still have to make that one ;-)
I don't know... that's for you to judge.
Q: Do you meet a lot of famous people?
A: does it matter?... No, really... Does it matter? I like to meet creative people. I love it when people talk about their passion and it makes their eyes shine.
Q: What's your favorite mixer?
A: again: it depends... my favorites are (in random order): Brendan O'Brien / Michael Brauer / Toby Wright etc. etc.
Q: Can I attend one of your mixing sessions?
A: Yes... if you pay me ;-) That may sounds strange to you, but I think it's not fair to the people I am working for if I spend time (their time!, so their money) on something that's not related to their project.
Q: What's your favorite Reverb-unit?
A: TC 6000
