I am lucky enough to come from an amazing family with incredible parents, siblings and extended family and have recently become an Aunty for the first time. Family is very important to me if this counts as an "interest", if not then ignore the above! Most of my day's focus is the arts... pretentious as it sounds. I have found a nice little place where I'm enjoying design, appreciating contemporary art and am not scared of either of them. Design is my comfort zone, now that I am able to enjoy the wonderment of pretty pretty patterns rather than be made to believe that they are the key to my future (success=happiness?). I am always interested in meeting new people, preferably in the flesh and going out for a gig, dinner or a glass of wine (or 7?). I love to travel and speaking foreign languages. Any of you who know me well will know that I never shut up so actually the only way I can stop myself from knawing my hand off with frustration when travelling is to learn the appropriate language! I also play the harp. And I have a phobia of hearing people eat or anything making that sound.... yes, including kissing etc.... although great kissing is a suitable distraction...
I'd like to meet old friends, new friends, Eileen, Hansel...all of the Buena Vista Social Club, a few people that can't be with us anymore and your parents.
People that believe they can play music. There are those people who when young would declare "I can't draw!" "I can't do it!" "I can't sing / play a musical instrument!". I like people who believe in themselves, obviously it helps that I like them as a person and that they sound good and that they are attractive and can dance a complicated dance routine and magically change their hairstyles every week..... believe me if you will!?But more specifically; World Music, Eighties Pop, Classical, Ska, Dub, Reggae etc etc... And all of these: Buena Vista Social Club, Ojos de Brujo, Mabulu, Omara Portuondo, Oi Va Voi, Tantra, Joi, Angélique Kidjo, Cesaria Evora, Abdullah Ibrahim, Celloman, Fela Kuti, Mungal, Afro Celt Sound System, 1 Giant Leap, Nick Drake, Tali Trow, Urban Species, MC Solar, Eurythmics, Cyndi Lauper, Terence Trent D'arby, Massive Attack, Bonobo, En Vogue, The Cure, The Smiths, Faithless, The Skatalites, The Cat Empire, Tracy Chapman, Dire Straits, Beth Orton, Chris Garrick, Ben Harper, Pink Martini, Ben Folds, Seu Jorge, The Be Good Tanyas, Jeff Buckley, Bob Marley, Dexys Midnight Runners, Eric Clapton, Prince, Portishead, Queen, Ravi Shankar, Ry Cooder, Tori Amos, Gotan Project, Rusted Root, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Ozomatli, Gomez, Sufjan Stevens and so so many more...
I find them particularly moving, especially the image. The Big Blue (to make me swoon), Old Boy (minus that tongue scene), Empire Records (to sing along), Zoolander (to giggle uncontrolably), The Fisher King (to make me cry). The Labarynth (to be entranced), City of Women ( to spin out ) oh, and just so many more... I'll update...Ok so some more classics.... Spirited Away, Drop Dead Fred, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Usual Suspects, Dancer In The Dark, Amelie, Empire Records, Dirty Dancing, Chocolat (the book's better though- even though Juliet Binoche is so hot!), ...on the same theme; Cache, Fargo, The Life Aquatic, Breakfast Club, The Never Ending Story, The Labirynth, The Goonies, Un Bout de Souffle, Shooting Dogs etc. Some educational, some funny, some true, some foreign... just saw He loves me, He loves me not.... Truelly amazing!!!
I don't have a TV anymore.
Helen & Desire (Ladies- Read It!!!!) The Lovely Bones, The Gift, The Five People You Meet In Heaven, The Diceman, Saki, The Time Travellers Wife, The Alchemist, The English Dictionary and several other dictionaries... always a top read and informative.
My Grandad, 93, still the wisest, oldest man I know and also one of the few people that will think I'm great whatever I do. Unconditional love is a beautiful and powerful super hero weapon. My mum and dad.
