About Me

Let's see...where can I start? Alright...DaveSoul was born on the southside of Chicago in the year of 1978. I guess you can thank both his mom and grandma for influencing him to become the music lover that he is today. His mom had all them LPs sitting in front of that big-ass console stereo(remember those?)..y'know, the one that looked like a piece of furniture. The one that your moms played records on whenever she had company come over. The one that had them big silver knobs on it with the 8-track tape player in it?...Yeah. Dave's grandma had all the 45s...Everything from Gladys Knight & the Pips, The Staple Singers, B.B. King, O.V. Wright, etc.. And of course, he was exposed to all that crazy 80's 'pop' music...Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, ZZ Top, Duran Duran, so on & so forth. But it was through Rap music that Dave was introduced to the more obscure 70s Funk, Soul & Jazz classics at a rather young age. It was also the sounds of Chi-town's best radio stations that kept Dave 'in tune' with the latest and greatest...whether it was the classic '2-step' soul being played on V103, those Friday night House megamixes on WBMX & WGCI, or the Hip-Hop shows on WHPK & WKKC. The first deejay that he ever saw rock a pair of turntables was the late, great Jam Master Jay...That was when Dave's mom took him to see the movie 'Krush Groove' when he was only six years old, and that's when he KNEW that he was going to be a deejay. ...Fast forward to 1998, six years after his commute to New Orleans, DaveSoul and a couple of his Delgado Community College classmates, DJ Nine Lives and Troubleman, formed a deejay crew called "The S.W.A.T. Team". They held down their very own 2 hour slot on a live internet radio station, Fly-FM.net, up until its demise in 2000. On April 1st, 1999...DaveSoul bought his first pair of Technics 1200's (a VERY USED pair at that), and as they say, the rest is history....The very next week, DaveSoul began spinning at a place called True Brew Cafe'...a small cafe' located in the Downtown New Orleans area where a group of poetry lovers & writers, who dubbed themselves 'Pozazz Productions', held it's Friday night poetry/open mic events. He would become their 'resident' DJ for the next seven years prior to Hurricane Katrina. During those seven years, DaveSoul has become one of the most popular, and one of the most versatile, deejays to come out of New Orleans. He has deejayed for a quite a few local New Orleans Hip-Hop & Funk bands, notably Mental Metropolis & Soul Remedy. He was one of the finalists in the 'Kool DJ-Mixx Competition' in 2000. He has opened for a number of national recording artists such as The Roots, Erykah Badu and Common(at the 10th anniversary of the Essence Fest in 2004). His first two mixtape/CD projects("The Dynamite Adventures of DaveSoul" Volumes 1 & 2)have been received well since their release in 2003. His latest volume, "TheBayouClassikOldSkoolHouseParty", serves as a blast-from-the-past for many New Orleans natives & old-school Hip-Hop lovers alike.
