About Me

My name is Josh. I like to say hi to children and dogs when walking down the street. I pet plants and talk to them. I like cooking shows. I'm a study in duality. Overcast days are not my friend. I like the sun. I can accept the rain. I can love the rain, OK? It's really just a matter of perspective. And by "it" I mean existence, awareness, conciousness - it's been dubbed "life" by people and/or Gods that supposedly know better. So deep and so wacktarded.

My Interests

Upright Citizens Brigade, films no matter how seriously great or seriously awful, cooking, being the center of attention, being left alone, American Chopper, Howard Stern, Robin Quivers, obscure DVDs, whatever Steve Jobs will say next, SNL Complete First Season Box, The Young Ones, Greenwich Village, The Smiths, perfecting my record collection, laughter.

I'd like to meet:

John Waters, Howard Stern, Macaulay Culkin, very wealthy, generous, eccentric billionaires in failing health. Also: YOU.

Music:

Good god - this is impossible. Fiona Apple, Wooden Wand, Kanye West, The Smiths, Morrissey, The Beatles, Hair Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Deerhoof, Carole King, Green Day, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples In Stereo, Wilco, The Futureheads, Mariah Carey, Elliott Smith, Sleater-Kinney, 2Pac, Alice Donut, Sonic Youth, Black Flag, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, The Gossip, Ladytron, The Magnetic Fields, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, The White Stripes, Laura Veirs, Spoon, John Lennon, Minutemen, N.W.A., Liz Phair, They Might Be Giants, Public Enemy, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Devo, The Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sufjan Stevens, U2. Heh, this is friggin' ridiculous. Get into my life, this list never ends...

Movies:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Blues Brothers, Animal House, Meatballs, The Jerk, The Big Lebowski, Elf, Zoolander, Clerks, Slacker, Goldmember, Office Space, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Tarnation, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Squid and The Whale, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Purple Rain, This Is Spinal Tap, Say Anything, Happiness, Me and You and Everyone We Know, This list could really go on for a long, long, long time - this is just what I can see in my stack of DVDs from here. I like tons of "art" films, foreign, documentary, obscure, etc. The Film Forum on Houston is a very frequent stop for me, the Angelika (I'm used to the subway rumbling by), Cinema Village, etc. I like films of all stripes, get it? But mostly dumb comedies.

Television:

Seinfeld, Freaks and Geeks, Food Network, American Chopper, The Apprentice, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, Celebrity Poker Showdown, The Office (UK), Survivor, Ali G, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Howard Stern, Chappelle's Show, South Park, Beavis and Butthead, How It's Made, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, America's Next Top Model, Top Chef, Dexter. I love renting TV shows on DVD and watching a whole season in one shot. Bliss I tell ya, bliss! I also love most HBO documentaries, PBS, Discovery Channel, Home and Garden, etc. Any shows where I'm instructed how to make or fix something is the best. From Martha Stewart to This Old House.

Books:

Most Hermann Hesse (Demian and Siddhartha in particular), lots of Bukowski, Vonnegut, lots of non-fiction. I love biographies mostly. I like learning about notorious figures lives because I think I learn a lot from other people's triumphs and failures. Fiction is a rarity for me and always has been, unless we're talking about the kind of fiction I've mentioned above. Hesse and Bukowski are both authors that address philosophical, cultural and societal issues close to my heart, so therefore I can learn from their characters as if they are real people.

Heroes:

Howard Stern, Steve Martin, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Christo and Jean-Claude, Jackson Pollock, John Belushi, John Lennon, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jimi Hendrix, Morrissey, Jeff Spicoli, Penn Jillette, Henry Darger, Martin Gore, Frank-N-Furter, Matthew Barney, Sandra Bernhard, John Waters, Seymore Stein, Jac Holzman, Dan Flavin, David Mikelsons, Ben Bloom.
