About Me

My name is Westleigh Santamaria. Yup that's the correct spelling. The "T" is silent, my parents wanted to be original...go figure. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. That makes me Canadian, but I've been living here in California, by way of Bakersfield, Carson, Long Beach, and Rowland Heights, for twelve years now. I dont have a Canadian accent anymore, so don't ask me to say aboot, hoouse, or wicked. I don't end every phrase by saying EH!, I tend to say dude a lot more though. I've come to realize that you can have a whole conversation with the word dude, it's all in the expression and the tone you say it (you should try it sometime). I have dreadlocks, which is unnatural for Pilipinos. I didn't get them for reasons of vanity, rather I decided to grow them as an exercise in patience, loyalty, hard work, and a belief in animism. I use a special shampoo that allows me to wash my locks and scalp whenever I want (usually about every other day), so my head is not dirty at all. I don't know when I am going to cut them because I have a sentimental attachment to them. They are a testament of the past 3 and a half years of my life seeing all of my good and bad times. I love all types of music, it's one of the things that make my "SOUL IRIE". I believe that music is life, and that everyone has a soundtrack to their lives. Right now, mine has a lot of funk and soul in it. I get the highest high when I hear musicians play ill solos on their instruments especially guitars, horns, vibraphones, and percussion. I believe in the four elements of hip hop, but I appriciate rock 'n f***'n roll, and the music that my dad used to play on his record player. I believe that Bob Marley was half right when he said "One good thing about music is when it hits you feel no pain" because music can evoke pain and sadness though its composition and lyrics just listen to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis or any Dashboard Confessional song. Nonetheless it's a good quote. I like to go out to cool spots for the occasional drink (or two), good music, and good peoples. Check out my article for the PAC Alumni times for some cool spots, and nice after hours eateries. Contrary to popular belief I don't party all the time, I just like to "shake a leg" sometimes and gruv with a pretty lady (who doesn't?). Im pretty mellow and chill at times, but I like experiencing new things. I like to hang out and vibe with my friends and family. I like to drink coffee and have good conversation with good peeps discussing current events socio-political, issues, and the pros and cons of girl on girl mud wrestling vs girl on girl hot oil wrestling. I like to rock out, sensitive style, on my acoustic guitar. I like big butts and I cannot lie. I believe that clothes from thrift and vintage stores has its own unique experience, and story. I believe that you can tell a lot from a person by the drink that he/she is drinking. I'm a scotch and whiskey man myself. I dig meeting new people, and finding out new things about my friends. I am an avid nintendo (circa 1988) player who knows all of the pass codes and warp levels for Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Contra, Ikari Warriors, and Super Mario Bros I, II, and III. I believe that one's roots is their foundation, and without them they have nothing. I think that I have too much time on my hands, and that I should get back to work, but thanks for reading this. One Love!

My Interests

traveling, NYC, exploring Los Angeles, and Luzzo's Bufala di Mozzarella pizza.

I'd like to meet:

I want to meet a girl with extensions in her hair. Bamboo ear rings(at least 2 pairs). A Fendi bag, with a bad attitude, this is the type of girl that could get me in a good mood...or Eva Mendes(whatever comes first).

Music:

New Page 1 Music Burning my ipod: spring 2007

I'm a musical schizophrenic. I love all kinds of music from different cultures, genres, and time periods. My musical foundation was set from hip hop, from hip hop I've learned to appreciate and love music as a whole. Here's what is on heavy rotation on my ipod at the moment.

amy winehouse: back to black

*this album is fiyah!

k-os: atlantis hymns for disco

*3 words, born to run.

mos def: true magic

*certain tracks on this album me feel uncomfortable, but in a good way, as art should do.

sa-ra: the hollywood recordings

*kcrw's been blowing up this album. it's really good, and I can't wait 'til it drops!

bloc party: a weekend in the city

nas: hip hop is dead

*love this album, but what I love even more are the Where are They Now? remixes. Das Efx, Lords of the Underground, FuSchnickens, and Dres on the same verse? It's a dream come true.

ghostface killah: more fish

david bowie: let's dance

* I can't get Modern Love out of my head

lilly allen: still

*she's a sneakerhead, and the album is good too!

joss stone: introducing joss stone

*something about women singers from the UK. Is it just me or is a lot of good music coming outside of the US? Just a thought.

brazilian girls: talk to la bomb

*i love brazilian girls, and this band is dope too!

Classic Album Du Jour

nas: illmatic

*one of my top 10 albums of all time, and my favorite nas album to date. In my opinion a classic!

Myspace Music

Lately it seems like every one of my friend requests have been from upcoming unsigned artists, so I thought I'd show some of them some love. Here are some of my favorites. Check them out, you might like what you hear.

ubah: http://www.myspace.com/ubahmusic

*she has a very unique voice that feels like a tall glass of lemonade when you hear it sweet, calm, and refreshing.

duskwallow: http://www.myspace.com/duskwallow

*acoustic tinged dub and reggae vibes, my man cy is sick!

sandbloom: http://www.myspace.com/sandbloom

*I've actually been following this guy for a number of years now since my homie mendo took me to see him perform at the Temple Bar. This guy's hit's the falsetto better than any R&B crooner in the 70's ever did, and now as a duo, their music is just of the hook!
