UFO Robot Grendizer (UFO?? ???????in Japanese, a.k.a. Grandizer in the Arab World and America, Goldorak in France and Québec, and Goldrake in Italy and Malta) was a mecha anime show created by legendary Japanese anime artist Go Nagai. It was shown on Japanese TV in 1975 and lasted 74 episodes.
GrendizerGrendizer is a fictional mecha from the anime and manga series of the same name, created by Go Nagai. Within the story, Grendizer was created by the Vegan Empire and stolen by the Prince of Planet Freed, who piloted it under the guise of the masked warrior Duke Freed.
HISTORY
The planet Vega was ruined by the abuse of a radioactive ore called Vegatron. Seeking ever more power, Kind Vega launched an attack on the peaceful planet Freed. The only survivor of the attack was Prince Freed, who managed to steal Grendizer from the Vegans and make his escape. Arriving on Earth, the Prince was adopted by Professor Umon and took the name Daisuke. Two years later, the Vegans came to Earth seeking Grendizer and the prince. Daisuke resolved to use Grendizer to defend his new home and took on the identity of Duke Freed. Grendizer is armored with (and named for) Space Alloy Gren, which is said to be five times harder than steel, though Chogokin New Z (the same armor material used in Great Mazinger) was similar enough to be used for Grendizer's repairs. Like the Mazingers, Grendizer was powered by a Photonic Energy reactor. Grendizer was designed to dock with a support craft called the Spazer that would allow it to fly through the air and space, while Professor Umon eventually created a trio of new-model Spazers for specialized purposes.
