I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Matt and I met in September 1992 at Ft Eustis, VA, where he was a Military Policeman and I was getting my second MOS (going from Cargo Specialist to Aircraft Structural Repairer). He came to my barracks to apprehend a permament party soldier living there, and I was CQ (Charge of Quarters). Almost exactly six months later we were married, on March 6, 1993, and it is by far the best decision I have ever made. We have four beautiful children together, two boys and two girls, and we live in a house that is way too small for us, especially since we only have one bathroom! Matt has a career that he loves (even if he occasionally hates people) and I have a job that I *hope* will be a career, but since that's in civil service, it's hard to say if it will pan out (if you know me, you know where I work). We are a pretty active family; between football, soccer, bowling, scrapbooking, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, BBQ contests, cycling, and now teaching a college course, sometimes it seems like we meet ourselves coming and going! We are blessed with the friends that we have, old and new, near and far, and are doing our best to do more things to gather the people we love together so we can all enjoy each other's company. One thing is for certain, it's never dull at the Doss Haus!

My Interests

Hanging out with my husband and kids (it's a good thing I like doing that, because that's happening regardless, right?), history (mostly US, European, and military), cooking out and playing cards with our friends, bowling, scrapbooking, playing on the computer, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes beat the shit out University of Michigan every third Saturday in November, and trying to make the world a better place (at least in my little corner of the world).

I'd like to meet:

It's not so much that there's any one person *I* would like to meet, but I wish that my children could meet their great-grandparents; they were such neat people.

Music:

Queen, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Van Halen, Chicago, Def Leppard, Jimmy Buffett, DaVinci's Notebook, The Pogues, The Commitments, Social Distortion, Billy Joel, The Blues Brothers, Dead Milkmen, Enya, Travis Tritt, Tungee, Gashang, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Paul and Storm are some newly-discovered old favorites... Jeez, I don't know if I can list everything, really...

Movies:

Gettysburg, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Breakfast Club, Trading Places, Blues Brothers, Die Hard, Wayne's World, Blazing Saddles ("Hold on while I whip this out." "AAAHHHHHH!"), St. Elmos Fire, Spaceballs, The Replacements, The Commitments, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Blackhawk Down, Major League, Vision Quest, Clerks, Princess Bride

Television:

The Simpsons, Family Guy, MASH, Law and Order (both original and SVU), old-school Looney Tunes, Cops, 24, American Choppers, Trick My Truck (it's amazing what they can do with a semi!), Family Ties

Books:

Raul Hilberg's History of the Holocaust, just about any book that deals with US History in the Colonial, Civil War, World War II, or modern eras, pretty much anything dealing with the Holocaust, as well as anything by Jeff Shaara and Leonard B. Scott, the entire Little House on the Prairie series as well as prequels AND Rose WiIlder Lane's books, the Harry Potter series (she'd *better* hurry up and finish Book 7!), I admit to having a fondness for what my husband calls "smut books" although some of the historical ones have some good research put into making them accurate, and I'll have to update this with more titles at some other time because my mind's blanking out on really cool books that I could read again and again and be happy to do it.

Heroes:

My husband, my children, my parents (both biological and in-laws), my family (blood, in-laws, and affection) and friends continue to inspire me on a daily basis. I also have nothing but the upmost appreciation and respect for first-responders who risk their lives on a daily basis.

Should the BCS move to a play-off format?

That's the big question going around college football these days, and I think there's some weight to the argument. For example, I do not believe that Florida deserves to be ranked #2 and facing O...

Short Opinion on today's BCS Bowl games

USC vs scUM:  Well, all you Michigan lovers, now that USC has beaten your butts, kind of hard to justify the whining about wanting another shot at OSU, isn't it?  Although this game was a ha...
