Music for Molasses

About Me

My first tape was Genesis' self titled from '83 and I played it over and over when I wasn't listening to the oldies station. I think I was 11 years old. My second tape was Metallica's "...And Justice for All," also when I was 11. It all began then.I soon fell in love with Megadeth and Judas Priest , and years later came Gamma Ray , Skyclad , Anacrusis , Moonspell , Ulver and (most importantly) Edge of Sanity . I didn't just discover bands, I discovered passion for music. Then at age 16, having only listened to metal for 5 years (shortly after In Flames covered Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts") I met this kid, Evan, who radically changed my life. He listened to shit like Herbie Hancock , Emerson Lake & Palmer , Depeche Mode , Underworld , Chemical Brothers , and Aphex Twin . I knew he didn't listen to whatever was just on the radio. And most of all I saw that the same passion I held for metal can be seen in any genre. I soon absorbed almost everything he had, and it opened my eyes even wider (and perhaps the only thing that kept me from wearing denim, leather and chains til death -not that that's a bad thing).
At age 18, I found the means to create electronic music of my own, with AudioMulch and I was addicted because I would hear whatever I made with my imaginary ear. About the same time, I started making mock metal/comedy stoner music with Steve, under the name Technolicious. The music I made alone came to be Beta Project.Sometime after I discovered Múm in 2002, and relocating to Boston in 2003, my hunger for music became great and I found myself exploring Coil , Stars of the Lid , Tim Hecker , much Indian raga music, the depths of underground IDM, and everything Hip Hop; from Three 6 mafia to Quasimoto . I began collaborating with artists like Tyler, Nick & Thomas, and anyone else I knew that practiced music.Technolicious evolved and recorded until 2006 and Beta Project journeyed through Industrial, Breakbeat, IDM, Ambient, & Hip Hop. The last Beta Project album, "Black Psi-Op," written in 2006 was a culmination of all genres previously attempted. Both Technolicious and Beta Project remain inactive."Horst, the Metal Band" started in February of 2007 upon purchasing a new amplifier, due to a reemerging of love for metal. "Delineating the Lugubrious" was soon written and recorded, because the riffs were too great to disappear forever.Immediately after completion of the album I bought a new-used Schecter Hellraiser C-7, and within months all new riffs began to emerge. This led to a short 4 song venture, mixing all that I knew from metal with all that I gathered from electronic production. It was Horst II. This was my meager venture into incorporating Hip Hop with everything else I know.In March of 2008, a force commanded my fingers on the fretboard so much that I had to begin a writing phase once again for Horst. That brings us to today. Stay tuned for more demos!
