Phunk Bros.

Neither of these cats are virgins to the mic. Both Kool Keith & Swill Gates have been sharpening thier lyrical swords within the same Hip-Hop faction since the late 80s. Swill Gates was in Toledo, OH. and Kool Keith in Southfield, MI. Both were doing their thing respectively on thier own. However, it wasn't until early 2002 that both emcees met each other personally. Swill Gates had appeared (along w/ Rich Nice) on a track that DJ ILL SID (of Da Basix) had produced. Kool Keith liked what he had heard and inquired about the emcee (Swill Gates). DJ ILL SID then invited Kool Keith to come behind Gates with 16 bars of his own. The track ("Gus Macker") eventually appeared on Kool Keith's "STREET SLANG" EP and proved to be nothing less than HOT!!! This undeniable banger is what led the streets to begin talking. After months of admiring each other's styles; both emcees met up in person at a local album release party on April 19, 2002. After exchanging thoughts and operating within the same circle for awhile; Kool Keith was invited to spit bars on Da Basix's classic underground release--"Soul Shok," which is available now! Once the streets kept hearing the duo lacing beat after beat after beat it was only right that the 2 emcees join forces to create Da Phunk Bros. And the rest as they say is history!
