About Me

This year's QMU General Election will take place on Thursday February 28th and I am running for President.I have been proposed by Ali Tweedlie, currently Honorary President of the Union and seconded by Freddie Holliman, the final QMU Freshers Week Convenor. For the last four years I have been involved in the Queen Margaret Union in some shape or form:- I started off as a Rev and Cheesy Pop addict- I used the QM from a club and society point of view for rehearsing plays with STaG- i was a Freshers Helper in 2006 and a Freshers Week Team Captain in 2007- i was an active social and entertainments committee member from 2006, helping to make events like rev, cheesy pop, raw and the big wednesday night pub quiz amongst others the best they could be- i became an ordinary board member in may 2007 and was elected ordinary board convenor by my fellow ordinary board members in November which shows I am a trusted and respected figure in the Union. In this role I have pushed ordinary board members to achieve their full potential, something I would continue to do across the board if elected President. All of these experiences have given me insight not only into the things I love about the Union, but also the things I would like to see change and develop.I believe that I am the best person for the job in the coming year, and as QM President I aim to make the Union the best it can be ACHIEVING RESULTS BEYOND YOUR WILDEST DREAMS.There are many more reasons, and my official manifesto is below. I would love your support.Join this group and Vote ALLY HUNTER #1 on February 28th!Thanks for reading.Ally.----Manifesto----I’m Ally Hunter. I’m a final year theatre student. As President, I will be:
Inspiring
By drawing attention to the reasons the QMU is special, I will inspire the Board as well as the current and prospective membership.
By highlighting the extent of our value, I will inspire the University to support us. Having worked with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds this will give me an advantage in representing the Union both internally and externally.
As Ordinary Board Convenor, I have changed the attitude of the Ordinary Board, pushing for one that is active in all aspects of the Union and responds to the members’ wishes. I would like the chance to go above-and-beyond the developments I have already been able to make in my current role by being elected President this year.
Inventive
In order to survive, I believe that it is crucial that the Union develop new ways of thinking about what the QMU is as a concept and an experience– one that should not be confined solely to the building. I aim to develop and evolve current events and introduce more to avoid staleness, for example a student street party.
Offering some walls for student artists to paint murals to make the building look cooler should be explored, and a book swap in Lacuna would make the Union a better place to be.
I have a creative background and this will be useful in helping the Board to develop and carry out their own ideas. Too often ideas are halted in their tracks for financial reasons - we need to be looking at ways we can overcome these obstacles with more of a can-do attitude than has existed in the past. We should also be looking at cutting down queues and getting people into the building faster.
Involving
I want every member to feel like a part of this Union is theirs. Pushing committee involvement should be a key component of this. I also want to find out what the less-active membership want through questionnaires, an idea proposal system and holding ‘office-hours’.
I would like us to communicate and work more closely with our clubs and societies – they are the core of the Union and give it a vibrant personality. As well as this, I will reach out to all sections of the student population, including mature, international, part-time, and post-graduate students aiming to provide them with the best student experience possible.

I make, study, and work in theatre. I have a company called Wilderness of Tigers (see www.myspace.com/wildernessoftigers)
I play Double Bass. I have a 19th Century German Bass that I love.
I spend a lot of time in the QM. Especially at Rev. You should come along and dance with me one night.
This year I went to Singapore and Cambodia. I want to go back. The weather is better there and thunderstorms are cool. Although it is weird calling the taxi drivers Uncle.
Jimmy Eat World are great guys and you should listen to their songs.
I've moved out of Crub Castle, after 2 years living there firstly with FF McG and then with Superman.
Myself and FF McG have this thing called crub. You won't know what that means but it'll make her smile i think. She kept running around Asia, traceable only by her facebook status, but now she is back in Glasgow.
Seonaid is thee best sis in the world. She is awesome. and has nicer hair than me. She also added this herself.
Last summer (2006) I did some work down in Manchester in a collaboration between Mashirika from Rwanda, macrobert from Stirling and Contact Theatre Manchester. Check out the Rwandan flag. I think it is great:
I have nintendos of all varieties. They make me smile.
I own too many Joss Whedon boxsets. They are good though. So is heroes, but I don't own that yet.
I'm in this weird student/professional transition right now and it kinda freaks me out so feel free to be as childish as you want around me because i'd quite like to regress back into that world. I guess that's one of the reasons I enjoy being in a rehearsal room working with actors.
