I was discovered by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513, though I was originally inhabited by an indigenous people, including tribes such as the Ais, Calusta, Tequesta, Timucua, and Tocobago.
At different times I was partially owned by Great Britain, France, and Spain before becoming the 27th state of the United States of America in 1845. During the Civil War, I seceded from the Union and became a founding state of the Confederate States of America.
Now Americans live all over me.
