I am here for Friends

About Me

I was born in California but moved back to the Boston area when I was entering first grade. I went to college in upstate New York and then moved back to the Boston area again. Currently I live in Halifax, MA with my dog. Though I am a HUGE Red Sox fan and have been since I was a kid, I was in college when I rediscovered the beauty of Baseball. From Spring Training through the post season, I am glued to my radio/television/computer looking for news, scores etc. I love the Patriots and the Steelers, an inherent conflict that comes to light just about every year now...Football is one of "those" sports though, and I do everything in my power to watch as many games as possible during the season (including ignoring my household duties). Vara (the dog) and I hang on the weekends watching Baseball and Football and cursing like sailors at the TV. Well, I watch and curse...she plays with her toys and looks at me all confused about what is making me so cranky. For the record, I am such a Red Sox psycho, Vara is short for Varitek...

My Interests

Movies:

Office Space; The Princess Bride ("INCONCEIVABLE"); Borat; Clerks; How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days; Final Destination (all three...the grosser, the better Baby); The Longest Yard; The Hill Have Eyes (that movie is beyond disturbing); oooh, on the same note, Hostel; All of my Red Sox games on DVD (do those count? I have the 'Tek/ARod July 24th Bill Mueller walk off game...I watch it when I am sad...and I become un-sad...but I hate the Game 3 ALCS DVD, it has the effect of "Beaches" or "Fried Green Tomatoes" for normal chicks on me)

Television:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Angel; Charmed; Family Guy; My Name is Earl; Scrubs; Arrested Development; The Office; Law & Order (the original and SVU); The Class; Stark Raving Mad (Canceling it was a crime against humanity)

Books:

Good In Bed and In Her Shoes, actually anything by Jennifer Weiner; Now I Can Die in Peace, Bill Simmons; To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee; The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison; Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston; Summer Sisters, Judy Blume; The Red Tent, Anita Diamant; The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, Rebecca Wells (as well as both follow up novels); The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks (this is my favorite of his books, but all of them are wonderful); Belva Plain (again, all of her stuff...she is much more "beach reading" than "proud to admit to reading" reading...); A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard, James Frey (even knowing of the scandal, the books are great reads); Running with Scissors, Augusten Burroughs; Island of the Blue Dolphins (my all time favorite book ever)

Heroes:

I think a hero is defined by the individual. My hero won't be the same as your hero, so who I name doesn't matter. Heroic qualities should include the ability to seek knowledge and one's path in life without fear.To be able to leave behind that which isn't right in favor of that which could be takes strength and maturity. Maintaining the status quo instead of seeking one's own happiness is a sign of weakness.Being able to say no...to be able to walk away...the strength comes from within and deserves respect accordingly.
