Sofachrome is a heavy rock band that makes its home in St. Louis, Missouri. Formed in late 2000, the band essentially builds on traditional rock elements and modern sounds from today's heavier end of the musical spectrum. Sofachrome incorporates hard rock elements and just enough melody into its songs, while at the same time utilizing guitar solos and heavy drumming to add depth to its music. As a reviewer from GTP-Inc.com writes "There's a definite connection between this band and some of the work by Alice in Chains, Corrosion of Conformity and Pantera."
Among the band's more notable live performances, Sofachrome has shared the stage with national rock/rap act Hot Action Cop and was a finalist for Pointfest 16 sponsored by 105.7 The Point and Guitar Center.
The band released "Freak" in May 2003 and "Headcase" in August 2005. The EPs were mastered by Kevin Gerdes (Big Blue Monkey/Story of The Year) at Aquarius Media Productions (AmpStl). "Dig Your Hole" from Freak has been featured on St. Louis rock station 105.7 The Point, 101.1 The River, and various compilation CDs. Sofachrome's song "Serenity" is also featured on the Streetfighterz "C&I 4" DVD. "Dig Your Hole" and a special version of "Get A Life" is featured on the Streetfighterz "Project of Dreams" video/DVD. The band's music is also featured on the Streetfighterz "Ride of the Century" DVD. Other spins include internet radio stations HiddenPlanetRadio.com and indiebandradio.com. Bad attitude radio--- The

Reviews:PLAYBACK MAGAZINE, September 2005Sofachrome: Headcase (self-released)
Sofachrome is one of the best bands in the heavy-rock genre coming out of St. Louis. As someone who is sensitive to loud noises and also a migraine sufferer, I have consistently been willing to risk my health to hear the heavy sounds of a Sofachrome show. Headcase does a great job of capturing the energy of their always-exciting live performances. The band is super-tight, and great guitar parts and rhythm tracks can be heard on all six of the CDs songs. Butch Tocco alternates between singing strong, low melody lines on slower parts and screaming with rage on the heavy parts. Tracks like Coup de Grace and Sissies in the Back are a great showcase of the bands talent; theyre so hard-hitting and catchy, its easy to imagine them getting heavy airplay on the radio. Theres no shortage of great guitar solos and super-intense drumbeats that serve the groups music perfectly, too. Headcase is truly a great recording from a great band. | John Kujawski
PLAYBACK MAGAZINE, April 2004Sofachrome is a great heavy rock band that has been offering local audiences explosive sets filled with the heavy guitar sounds of Chris Sutton and high energy stage antics from singer Butch Tocco. In addition, this local band has a great rhythm section and a batch of thought provoking lyrics to go along with it all. Aside from the well performed live performances, the band's first five song CD, Freak is a high impact recording, well worth many listens.
PLAYBACK MAGAZINE, January 2004Sofachrome is a brutally heavy band that will hardly inspire someone to lie down on the couch to take a nap. One of the main reasons this bands live set is so exciting isnt because they are so heavy, but because the songs are so well played. The double kick drum effect alone is truly devastating and is sure to be felt in a way that will increase an audience members heart rate. The guitar riffs are well-chosen weapons that add to the whole effect and there is no shortage of energy in the bands lead singer. The only breather the audience gets is when the members decide to share jokes about drugs and pornography with the audience. But the band is so tight musically, they clearly spend time in their rehearsals making sure everything sounds perfect. The group is a must-see in our local music scene.
