I am the Octavian Warrior seeking the lights of the tower!

About Me

I'm a 23 year old pianist/keyboard player from St.Ives in Cambridgeshire. I completed my music degree last year and am currently studying for an MA in Music Performance at APU in Cambridge. Alongside this I'm trying to make a living as a musician, with varying degrees of success. Loving the variety - I can be playing to a load of drunk skinheads in a sweaty nightclub one night to playing light jazz to discerning hotel customers the next. All good fun!
I spend my mornings playing the piano (or attempting to anyway) for ballet classes at Bodywork in Cambridge. It's great fun, though I'm still trying to get used to playing so early in the morning.
My music taste is strange, I'm at home listening to the most complicated piano concerto one day and then a bit of Shakatak and Level 42 the next.I play in the following bands: Linear Sphere (Mad prog metal), Behind Bars (Melodic rock) and Soul Patrol (Disco/soul/funk). I also do a lot of piano accompanying for music and dance exams.
I can also be found in the dark waters of MSN - [email protected] - please feel free to add me if you have something interesting to say, or just want the kudos of having me in your friends list :p
I have discovered the blog system and have started to use it to write down my everyday rants. To those who read them I'm not really as grumpy as all that, though I think I would be a welcome guest on grumpy old men (and probably the youngest).
Please feel free to have a look at the videos I have uploaded on my profile, they're supposed to be amusing but always end up looking strange.
As music is now effectively my job, to prevent becoming a workaholic I have tried to find new and exciting interests - cue cycling! I did the coast to coast cycle across the UK last September with my friends Matt and Tom, and we are attempting Land's End to John 'o Groats this summer.

Nick Toller

I was very sad to learn yesterday of the death of one of my music lecturers, Nick Toller. The lasting memory I have of Nick is sitting behind him on the flight to Rome for the annual college trip...

Recycling

I remember the golden age of the early 80s and late 90s when life was simple. As a young boy, every Friday morning I'd wake up at the crack of dawn and wait for the excitement that was the weekly bin ...

Valenbollocks Day

Is it me, or does anyone else think that Valentine's Day is a load of hairy, sweaty, crab-infested bollocks? PS - For any young lovers out there I recommend going to Wetherspoons, it's a valentesticle...

Autobiographies

I remember one of my Year 9 English projects was to write an autobiography. Although it was a very enjoyable task, I remember thinking - even then before I became a grumpy old git - who in their right...

MySpace Quizzes

Ok, I hate these bloody things but I still keep filling them out, apart from those stupid relationship ones. For a start, I've realised I've been a simpleton in calling them quizzes when they are in f...

Dentists

Now despite the title and the fact that most of my blogs involve grumpiness, this is not a dig at dentists. I think they do a great job and messing about in peoples' mouths all day can't be much fun, ...

Unless you've been sitting or living under a very large stone over the past few days, you will have noticed that this country has been hit by the dreaded fog. Fog, like snow, tends to slow everything ...

Now this isn't a blog about personalised number plates, although they can be genuinely stupid sometimes - a future blog subject perhaps? Some simple-minded tosser has broken my front number plate, pre...
