Ben Glover has been compelled to write songs since his mid-teens when he was awoken and unsettled by Tom Waits and Bob Dylan. He continues to be influenced by similar artists whose songs contain lyrical richness and who take a poetic approach in exploring the human condition. When he was sixteen, Ben started performing in his home village of Glenarm, situated on the north coast of Ireland. After graduating in Law he inherently knew that it was compulsory for him to pursue a career in music. In the summer of 2004 he put together his studio and touring band, "The Earls." and in the spring of 2006 they released their eagerly awaited debut EP, "The Ballad of Carla Boone." This recording was critically acclaimed by many leading Irish radio DJ's, including BBC's Gerry Anderson who said it was "one of the best records ever to be made in N.Ireland." As a result of the success of the EP they the won "Best New Band" at the Big Buzz Irish Entertainment Awards. Ben's songs and the music he creates with "The Earls" is subtle acoustic-rock that is coloured by lyrics filled with stark poetic imagery. The sound has hints of Americana but at the core of the songs and Ben's instantly recognisable voice is the natural influence of their northern Irish roots. He writes about the poignant and unguarded moments in real lives and his songs are filled with characters finding themselves on the outside of things, the fringe dwellers of society and the scorned outcasts of love affairs.Performing as an acoustic act or with the electrified accompaniment of "The Earls," Ben is fast building a reputation amongst his audiences as one of the most intriguing and captivating artists emerging from Ireland.Ben & The Earls have just finished the recording of their debut album, "The Week The Clocks Changed." It was recorded in Studio A, Blackbird Studios, Nashville and produced by renowned producer/musician, JD Foster.
