Things that keep me thinking and put me in check... I'm one of those activist types that are always mad busy with events, conferences, and protests, but I love what I do because its all for the natives, I plan on fighting for soc/enviro justice just so my grandkids don't have to... I've always been really athletic and I like to run, swim, anything I can do outdoors. I love to work out and I actually miss 6am practices, 33's, wall sits, all of it. I always liked volleyball but basketball is the one that has my heart forever, shoot I don't care what dad says, bob can't hold me back..lol... I like to write, in high school my teachers had to give me limits cuz I'd always go over, but it's only because I have a lot to say... I like play/screen writing and producing short films and documentaries. Its a pretty cool creative outlet that I fell in love with... I have a weird passion for fashion, and honestly I don't really know where it came from but that's just another dream... dymesheec, just ask about it, I can hold my own with the sewing machine and there are hidden sketches laying around... Most of all though, I'm into who I am, not in the arrogant way but in the "its up to our generation" sort of way. I've been dancing in pow-wow circles since I could walk and I was staying up all night at the brush dances before I could be in the pit. I love to learn the language and things from way back when just because that kind of connection is priceless.
As many positive, real, and down for the cause people I can. I feel like everyone has a purpose in life so I figure I'll meet those I was meant to encounter, especially because its not just what you know but who you know...As for the qualifications of HayLa, well there's been a short list of a few that have met the pre-reqs of my long list, but don't worry I'll keep ya posted! Trust me my eyes are wide open...dundine:sing hayow a:ningxa'chinnewa:n??

Music saves my life on most days, I have a broad taste that comes from the influences of different people, but I figure it makes a person well-rounded. Plus I get a kick out of underground stuff I find that people never heard of, what can I say I'm an educator...lol, jk...I love R&B oldies: Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Ray Charles, the Temptations, the list goes on.. I like to chill out with Sade and Norah Jones I love the neo-soul jamz from Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, MusiqSoulchild, Goapele, Rapheal Saadiq and that crew I'm a hip-hop baby that associates childhood summers with Bonethugs-n-harmony and that Sittin Phat Down South album lol. But for real, my favorites are Common, Kanye, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and others that aren't fake. As for the ladies I like Eve, Foxy Brown and of course MCLyte. I love old school, like native tongues stuff, A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, De La Soul, and then Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, the list goes on... I still like rock and metal from the Stones, to Metallica, from Audio Slave to AC/DC, yeah that be courtesy of my dad and the bros... I love reggae too, Bob Marley, Damien Marley is pretty tyte, and Sister Nancy is cool too... Of course I can't forget every person that lives on that BrushDance Greatest Hits record (u know who u are) and then the pow-wow jamz that bring smiles to my face.
All kinds..From more recent years, CRASH, V for Vendetta, Domino, the Departed, I don't know there are a short list of a few that can get the perfect A rating from me and my wannabe critic self...But of course there are the dumb funny movies.... I like Adam Sandler he cracks me up so you know Happy Gilmore is on the list... 40 year old virgin was good Ben Stiller is pretty great too like Meet the Parents.... Mean Girls was hillarious and well produced. Then there are the other classics like Poetic Justice, He got game, Love and Basketball, The Godfather, ScarfaceI like Thunderheart, Little Big Man, Pow-wow highway, i don't know, them natives on film are pretty great...gotta support...But of course I can't leave out the works of Super Six... damn Hupa Blues, ChaL Love Medicine, those girls put it down!!!! lol
I don't really have that much time for tv, plus its not that great for you either, some people just get way too sucked in. But when I get the chance to grab the remote and hang out for a second I usually watch Futurama, the Office, Comedy Central, the FLIX and Sundance Channels for the non-mainstream stuff, and then of course ESPN to get my sports fix.
Usually I try to pick up native rights books, been reading those since I was a youngin, but those are what interest me the most. I also liked Dante's Inferno, Siddhartha, and Counting Coup ... Lately... books for school but its cool I came across a few good ones... Kite Runner was really good, Candide, and the Consolation of Philosophy.the Politics of Life was really good (at least the plays that I read), 9 parts of desire, and Ntozake Shange's stuff and Raisin in the Sun were good too... oh yeah, Calvin and Hobbs, the Boondocks, ha, so its not for school but of course they're on my book shelf.
I have a lot of heroes but first and foremost is my MISS PAMELA KAY AMES!!!!! (Shout out to my phat sista) But on the real... My parents and grandmother Eva are my biggest inspirations and people I admire, they are beautiful people with good hearts who I owe it all to... Also I truly look up to and am grateful to those who came before us... those that sacrificed so much to ensure the well being of the generations to come. They are my inspiration as they fought so hard for survival... Strength comes from overcoming adversity and it runs thick through our blood... tsediya'
