***LIVES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!! I am sitting at work on Monday 7/9/07, and my assistant Kasey calls me from Livingston, KY. Her car had broke down on her way from Cincinnati to Asheville. Thankfully, she had a friend in Williamsburg who picked her up and took her back to her house until I could drive and get her. I pick Kasey up and we get on the highway and head south on I- 75. 3 minutes later we notice car parts all over the highway and people laying on the ground...the wreck had just happened, and we were one of the first cars on the scene. We pulled over, and tried to help who we could. Kasey and I saw a lady trying to get out of the overturned car, and she yelled for us to help her pregnant friend. I saw a lady and I knew that I could not help her. Her name was Cindy Haas, she was 25 years old, several months pregnant, and lost her life!!!! Next to her there was a little boy, barely moving! I did not want to move him because I was afraid he could have back injuries. From what I understand, this little boy is ok. There were several small children with severe injuries. One little girl had a severe head injury, and was screaming for help. I took off my shirt and put it on her head. I later found out that her name is Hayley, and she is 5 years old, in the hospital, and as of 7/11/07, she has started responding. In front of us there were also 2 little boys on the road. Some other people who stopped to help was with them!! From what I have heard, a little boy named C.J. (Hayley's brother) is in the hospital as well. I have not heard about the other little boy. A lady was screaming that a baby was in the car. A few moments later I looked up, and one of the people passing by had a small girl around 2 years old with big eyes and blondish hair wrapped up in a blanket in his arms. I will never forget that little girl, or the people that rescued her. She was so scared, but I was so glad that she was alright!! I only hope she doesnt remember this when she is older. There was a boy sobbing right behind us. It turns out, his name is Nick, and his brother Gus was killed in the crash right infront of the poor kid. Nick's face has not left my mind since this happened. He was accompanied by his father Peter. Both walked away!! Peter had a shoulder injury and had made a sling out of what looked to be a shirt. Peter put his good arm around Nick and both ran up the highway towards the ambulance.By this time, there were people everywhere, stopping to help, bringing water over, trying to keep the injured warm until help could arrive. One lady I spoke to was on her way to Gatlinburg on vacation with her family. Her husband was an off duty police officer and he had stopped to help! I met so many wonderful people who was trying to help these poor people out, and every single one of us had the same look on our face. So many people stopped!! One lady was laying on the ground with one of the little boys!!! This is the same lady that helped get the little girl out of the overtuned car. She is the bravest human being I have ever met!!! I will never forget the horrific sights I saw that night, most are too graphic to type in here, and I also wont forget the brave men and women who were there doing what they could to help! My heart and my soul have been changed forever!! Please pray for the ones effected by this, including the family of the drunk driver.I could write a novel, but I wont. The bottom line is several people lost their lives because of a DRUNK DRIVER! We all like to have fun, but we have to do it responsibly. Next time you wonder if you are too drunk to drive, call someone!!! Is it really worth killing yourself, or someone else? I only hope that everyone who reads this gets something from it, and passes it on to a friend who may get something out of it as well.
