However things may seem, no evil thing is success and no good thing is failure - Longfellow

About Me

The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain. ~ Longfellow
I love music and being outdoors.
I'm currently looking for a job in Boston in environmental advocacy or economic development - the best would be a blend of the two!
I used to be a major music snob, but now I pretty much only discriminate against pop bands... except for dancey pop songs... and pop from the 80s or Montreal. Fine. I admit it. I like it all!
I hate styrofoam, and do my best to avoid it at all costs.
Most weekends in the summer you won't find me in Boston. I'll be camping, hiking, kayaking, or generally adventuring outdoors!
I'm admittedly a bit of a geek... some geeky pleasures? Silly comic book movies, Buffy the Vampire Slayer...
I tried to learn how to play the guitar for a while, but most of my time was taken up in writing hundred-page papers... I want to get that going again. Anyone want to sell a used acoustic?
I can be sarcastic, but if you dig deeper, I'm a bit of a romantic.
"The permanent temptation in life is to confuse dreams with reality. The permanent defeat in life comes when dreams are surrendered to reality."
I'm working on finding a happy balance.

My Interests

Music... especially live music!, SCUBA, Reading, Traveling, Trying to learn new languages, Snorkeling, Skiing, Hiking, Laying on the Beach, Cheering on the Minnesota Twins, Cooking New Fun Recipes when I'm motivated, Ordering Thai or heading to Harry's when I'm not.

I'd like to meet:

Online?
Almost no one... I'm just here to keep in touch with my friends, or get back in touch with those I've lost track of.

In general?
Almost anyone! I'd love to meet Robert Kennedy Jr., Al Gore, Bob Dylan, and Ben Taylor, and I'm always excited for an adventure, so I love friends who love to travel! This summer I've seen Brazil, Acadia, and Martha's Vineyard (check out my photos), but I have a lot more of this world to cover:

"When you pray, move your feet" (African Proverb - An Inconvenient Truth credits)

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH

Anything on the Discovery or History Channels. I'm trying to quit...

Books:

Favs: The Drifters by James A. Michener, The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub, Blindness by Jose Saramago

Currently Reading: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

Last few: A Man Without a Country by Kurt Vonnegut, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Moloka'i by Alan Brennert, The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd, The Plague by Albert Camus, Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

Heroes:

My mom.
(for putting up with me when I was little; for keeping things fun and exciting even when we had so little; for being an example: finishing college and becoming a successful career woman while raising a child!)
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
(for working his ass off for the environment, and trying with all his heart to make it a non-partisan issue. NO ONE wants to breathe toxic fumes or have mildly-retarded children from eating fish more than once a week -- EVEN IN THE BOUNDARY WATERS.)
Yvon Chouinard, Founder and Owner of Patagonia.
(For being an amazing businessman AND environmentalist. I met him at Boston University. He's only an okay public speaker, but he's still an inspiring person. This is the same talk he gave at Boston University for the tour for his book, "Let My People Go Surfing - The Education of a Reluctant Businessman.")
...And the skateboarding dog on Gian's page.
