About Me
My Bio: Born in Mobile, Alabama and traveled throughout the southeast as an Army Brat and eventually settled in Melbourne Beach, FL in the late 70's. Grew up with a lot of sand in my shorts "attempting" to learn how to surf and be cool. Got an interest in music (as most of us do) in junior high, and wound up becoming pretty good on the drums. Well, as you can probably tell from the links, I eventually wound up hooking up via my older brother with this really wild guy named "Sal" (...stands for Silly Assed Lunatic...) who played guitar. At the same time, I hooked up with another kid in high school by the name of "John Lee III", whom we later on renamed "Johnny Rotten" (in honor of the famed musician from the Sex Pistols) and, while we were at it, renamed his parents "Mr. and Mrs. Rotten" for good measure (I'm still chuckling over that one). "Mr. Rotten" was pretty good at guitar and bass, and with the assistance of "Salvatore" we started a band called Locals Only. About 4-5 months into it, "Mr. Rotten" discovered "Ed Guilbeau" in chorus and brought him out for an audition (...well, it was actually an experience into which of the two blonde "surf attitudes" could be the coolest...), and then Locals Only truely took on a life of it's own. As fate would have it, I met another friend from intermural basketball by the name of Brian Cleary (...aka the "Boy Wunder"...) who played keyboards. After playing with a wimpy Casio (....which, rumor has it, he still owns and plays with The Movies...) he finally got a decent set of keys, and the New Wave/Surf Music sound filled the air faster than a monkey on crack!! Despite Boy Wunder's overprotective mother (...there were too many examples to list under this category...) we managed to extract him to various shows and clubs, just as he's described in the Local's Only webpage.
We played around for quite a while throughout high school and early college, and despite the obstacles and eventual breakup that all bands experience, we still remain close friends.
I eventually went on to college and despite a dismal academic record in high school I managed to get accepted to the University of Central Florida as a music major, only to discover to my horror I had to play in the marching band (...pure hell...I'll leave it at that...) but later on switched majors to Mechanical Engineering and eventually graduated and got an Officer's Commission in the Air Force.
I'm now a Registered Professional Engineer here in the Great State of Florida and working at an "undisclosed location" (...don't ask me what I do...it would be a shame to have to "neutralize" the entire webpage...).
As luck would have it, there was a local band in Tampa who needed a drummer/percussionist and I threw my name into the hat. After a quick, and comical, audition I found myself playing with the Urbane Cowboys which, in a nutshell, is a combination of some very, very heavy surf guitar (...hmmmm, sound familiar?...), alternative rock, "refried" southern rock, and a dash Hank Williams and Jonny Cash.
