Movies:

V for Vendetta was THE movie of 2006. Donnie Darko. the best movies to come out in the last few years were Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-Amelie-City of God. the movies I have seen most in my life are the Goonies-the Lost Boys-Stand by Me. If you has asked me 10 years ago I would have said Bladerunner, The Shining, or A Clockwork Orange (wait those are all Kubrick!). Also love Terry Gilliam and Mira Nair. SCARY MOVIES! Just saw the Exorcism of Emily Rose-recommended. I used to have the best scary movie collection ever. on BETA...

Television:

CARNIVAL! BRING IT BACK! Twin Peaks. Bollywood shows- India Waves and Showbiz India. The Korean Channel Arirang- lots of dancing from old school breakin and Korean poppers * * * * to crazy Soviet disco dancers. * * Nature documentaries. Animal Cops- San Francisco, New York, Houston, Detroit. I am very happy to report that the Vietnamese love animal shows too, I just can't understand the narration.

Books:

Classic: Post-apocalyptic-- Brave New World, Animal Farm, SF like Ray Bradbury, most Kurt Vonnegut RIP! Modern: South Asian/English language. Chita Banerjee Divakaruni, Jhumpa Lahiri, Rohinton Mistry, Khaled Hosseini, Romesh Gunesekera, Vikram Chandra. Arundhati Roy and Kiran Desai both won a Booker prize- Monica Ali is pretty cool too.

Heroes:

My mother, sister, and grandparents of course, but I want to introduce YOU to: Muhammad Yunus- just won the Nobel Prize, Amartya Sen has won it in the past- But Mukhtar Mai, Rachel Corrie, Shaima Rezayee, Zakia Zaki, and Shakiba Sanga are my real #1 heroes. (If you don't know, Google.) My dance teachers: Jill Parker (FINALLY on MySpace- what's up Jizelle!) and Ultra Gypsy.
