About Me

...even though I lived in New Jersey I'm not a Bon Jovi fan at all. But, I love this song.

My Interests

Information.

I'd like to meet:

...from the Bible: Paul (what was the thorn), Hosea (I want to know anyone who loves that unconditionally), Daniel (how was he so "in the world" but not of it), Boaz (He was so honorable that God invited him into the lineage of Jesus), Barnabas (I want a friend like that)....from history: DaVinci (so I can hear him laugh when I ask about "The Code"), Teddy Roosevelt (he's the "man's man" president), Winston Churchill (nobody was knocked down and got back up more times...with really witty things to say about the experience), Payne Stewart (I really wish his name didn't have to be in the history section), General George S. Patton (oh, to meet someone that complex), Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis (smartest man in Christendom), any of the field commanders from operation Market-Garden (those guys knew how to follow really stupid orders with honor)....contemporaries: Ravi Zacharias (C.S. Lewis of this age), Tom Hanks (he seems like somebody you could just hang with), Ron Howard/Steven Speilberg (ditto), Peter Erskine (I like a lot of drummers, but I identify with him), all of the guys from the Superbowl Bills (so I could let them know how great I think they really were and how much fun they made my life for 4 years), Alton Brown and Mario Batali (if you've gotta ask, then...)....who I've already met, but would like to meet for the first time again: my wife (I'd like to meet her for the first time again everyday), my dad (I'd like feel what it's like to meet my hero "man-to-man"), my father-in-law (it's cool how an honorable man can make other people feel honorable when he meets them), my grand-fathers (I think I'm finally man enough to meet them), all the people I didn't meet graciously the first time (I wish I could meet them again so that I could owe them "nothing but love") and finally all the people that are on the other side of "burned bridges"....and I'd like to meet myself (it would be an incredible gift to be able to see yourself like other people see you, but one that may be left unopened.

Music:

There are only two kinds of music...good and bad.

Movies:

Crimson Tide, Radio, Men of Honor, Patton, A Bridge Too Far...pretty much anything about honorable men being honorable.

Television:

Anything sports (and I'm obsessive about the US Open (golf), the Ryder Cup, The Masters, The Open Championship, any golf played in primetime under the lights, the Superbowl, the Daytona 500, the Pepsi 600, the Yankees in the World Series, and the entire month of March)....and Alton Brown and Mario Batali on food TV.

Books:

RomansMy Utmost for His Highest, Matthew Henry's Commentary, Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A Biography by Eberhard Bethge.Anything by Clancy, Peretti, Hemingway and Barna....and The DaVinci Code (yes, Virginia, there are some Christians secure enough in The Faith to read a book of historical and theological bunk that attacks their beliefs in the diety of Jesus and still enjoy the well written story and enjoyable "yarn"...let's get over ourselves people...if we're so petty in our faith that all we have to celebrate is a movie getting panned by critics then we need to spend more time reading and believing what's in my first favorite book...OK, my soap box is away now, it's safe to come out).

My Blog

BACK FROM CAMP

I'm back from camp.  Running went well in the foothills of northwest New Jersey.  Lots of hills, 3 good runs (one really good 6 miler).  Check out my blog on www.worshipconcepts.net for...

10 MILES*

The asterisk is kind of like the one that will go after Barry Bond's name in the record books.  My legs may have been moving for 10 miles, but you couldn't really call the last one running. ...

INTERVAL TRAINING

My weekday runs are pretty uneventful since changing to running for time instead of for distance.  Frankly, running 3-4 miles in 35 minutes is pretty mundane, but the experts say that weekly runs...

I WONDER IF G.K. CHESTERTON EVER RAN A MARATHON

7 miles!  I don't have an accurate time, but the average is somewhere between 11.5 and 13 minutes per mile. As usual, the first mile was the hardest.  My stride was really funny at the begin...

RUN, FORREST, RUN

This blog really should have been written last Tuesday.  Even though I committed to running only 3 miles on my short days (Tuesdays and Thursdays) I couldn't stop myself.  I felt like Forres...

I JUST LEARNED THAT I LIVE IN FLORIDA

...made it out Thursday...3miles...good run!  Average mile time was under 11.5 minutes.  I'm definitely changing my routine.  I'll still do my long runs on Saturday and shorter run...

I'M BACK RUNNING!!!

I'm finally back to my blogging.  I tried to run while in Maine, but the cartilage behind my left kneecap was too inflamed.  I could barely walk. It's been two weeks since I've even tried to...

RUNNERS' KNEE!!!

My last two runs have hurt...a lot.  Both were 5 milers.  Thursdays was my walk/run workout and I don't even remember it other than I stuck with my "short-run" strategy of splitting the firs...

GRINDING IT OUT

I forgot to post from my run on Sunday...but, it was a good one.  My mile times were all pretty good (13, 12, 12, 12).  The numbness in my right foot arrived right on cue at the beginni...

RUNNING THROUGH THE PAIN AND NEW RUNNING SHOES

Boy, a lot has happened since my last post.  I should have "blogged" yesterday.  The numbness in my right foot during Tuesday's run turned into some serious pain by Tuesday night.  It w...
