contemplation...

About Me

Perhaps it's fall weather, age, astrological indications, or something else, but I find myself at once energized and motivated but also drawn into contemplation.I live in a peaceful and relaxing place very close to Folsom Lake, and now that summer is coming to a close, I suppose it's not a bad time to think and contemplate.I'm enjoying meeting new people here and there, and in spite of the fact that I'm pretty shy, I seem to be a little more able to extend myself a little bit and introduce myself to new people.I'm lucky enough to work for myself. I'd like to say I set my own hours, and that's kinda true, but with a growing company, I find myself working a lot, but at least taking time out here and there to do fun stuff like movie nights, wandering around at Folsom Lake, hitting the gym, sharing meals with friends and the like.People who meet me are usually a little confused because I'm an odd combination of analytical/logical and spiritual/intuitive. They don't always integrate, it's more like I switch the analytical side off to reach the intuitive side, but they do seem to happily coexist, and I am equally comfortable discussing either or sometimes both at the same time.I'm one of those people that's done a little of everything from working in the music business (all sides, from tour management to production to booking and promoting) to management consulting, fixing Volkswagens, writing software and owning a computer service center to a deep and longstanding interest in holistic medicine and spirituality. (The one interest that has been a constant, consistent thing throughout my life.) I'm also a nationally certified massage therapist, and used to teach massage, and am interested in psychology, spirituality (particularly shamanism and indiginous (non-psychedelic, non-drug) traditions.

I've lived in a bunch of places... Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Arizona, California, but I seem to be settled in northern CA... 5 years in the SF Bay area, and 2+ years a little further north :)

Through a strange combination of events, I now co-own a group of media companies and some real estate investments with my friend and business partner AJ (he's in my top 18, and an interesting guy worth reading about.) We have properties focused on modeling, real estate, marketing, adult media (DVD and membership sites) and we also are working on several other projects in the education, public service, and commercial entertainment (indy film) sectors.

We have full time and part time people helping to keep our business running smoothly and growing, but we like to keep it "lean and mean."I am also interested in personal growth and healing, and am currently working with a friend on developing a seminar on relationships, communication, and self esteem aimed at men.

In the rare moments when I'm not at home working or in front of the 'puter, I enjoy hiking, theater, the gym, meditation, and the occasional concert/cultural event. I love to cook, and am starting to host improptu dinner parties with friends.

I'm happily single (yes, folks, it is possible... ) and not particularly looking, though I wouldn't necessarily turn down Mr. Right if he happened to wander by. (Mr. Right probably NOT being a Myspace person, since most Myspace users are under 30 and... well... no offense, but I don't really want to date someone 20 years younger than I am.) And while I'm happy to be your friend, I'm not into hookups at all.

Well, there's prolly lots more, so feel free to hit me up if ya wanna know anything. Oh... and if you hit me with a friend request, send a message so I know a lil somethin about you! Thanks!!

My Interests

photography/videography, computer geeky stuff, bodywork, psychology, counseling and hypnotherapy, business and marketing, spirituality (shamanism / Native American spirituality)

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people 18-98 who enjoy meaningful or at least interesting conversation, or share common interests. My friends range in age from late teens to mid 70s, and are similarly diverse in other ways... so if you're curious, hit me up. It's a plus -- but not required -- if you're in northern CA and are interested in meeting in person. As far as meeting "famous" people, I've been lucky enough to meet most of the ones I've hoped to, as a result of working in the entertainment biz.

Music:

All over the map. Feist, Coldplay, Wilco, Bela Fleck, Troublefunk, Andreas Vollenweider, James Taylor, Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, John Mayer, Chick Corea, Ron Carter, Dave Matthews, Nickel Creek, Jean-Luc Ponty, and about a bazillion others.

Movies:

Hmmm. Mostly stuff that isn't violent or overly negative (too much of that in the world already) but I'm a sucker for comedies and indy films.

Television:

Law and Order, Mind of Mencia, Bill Maher, occasionally other stuff. Lately I've been getting into the poofter channel (Logo) and Bravo. Usually I only watch while eating dinner or intentionally trying to drain my brain after a long day in front of the 'puter.

Books:

Nearly 100% nonfiction. I tend to read a whole lotta spirituality and psychology, but also love business books -- love Tom Peters and other management theorists -- and occasionally I like a good trashy novel now and then. My friends who have seen my book collection tell me that I own more books than practically anyone they know.

Heroes:

Gandhi, Einstein, Herb Kelleher and Colleen Barrett (Southwest Airlines), Tom Peters, and anyone with high integrity.
