What we do in life echoes in eternity

About Me

Hey!
My name's Dan, I'm 23 and I'm just planning to go back to Uni to study towards a doctorate in Law.I'm currently in a relationship with Ellie, who's a pretty amazing girl, and it's just awesome to just hang together and talk.....for hours, lol, or to have little adventures to gigs, Alton Towers or Birmingham and Nottingham. I'm so lucky to be with her :)
I'm a laid back type of person, sometimes too laid back for my own good. I'm not the most confident person in the world, I'm quite shy when I meet someone for the first time but once I get to know someone you can't shut me up - "..I like the sound of my own voice, I didn't give anyone else a choice.." I'm an emotional person, I don't tend to lose my temper a lot, but when I do it's generally fireworks for everyone, probably because I bottle things up when I shouldn't. I'm quite philosophical, I like to contemplate a lot of things when I'm by myself. I also love to learn because I believe education is fundamental in life, it teaches us to respect ourselves, those around us and most importantly it shows us that we should learn from our mistakes, and it gets me cheap booze. I'm an idealist, a dreamer, I suppose I haven't been truly disappointed by the world yet, but I hope I always keep some part of my idealism, at the same time, I realise that thoughts can change the world but only with action.
I love humour, that's why my friends are important to me because they've always been able to make me laugh, sometimes I was the joke, sometimes they were, but we could always laugh. I'm not the most wacky person, I tend to be the straight man to my friends off the wall humour.
Hope to see some of you soon. Take Care. :)
*********MAKE POVERTY HISTORY*********
I don't mean to preach, but this is the cause I believe in with all my heart. I know we can never fully destroy poverty - there will always be some that have more than others. I whole heartedly believe however, that if we put our minds and our resources to the task we can eradicate extreme poverty - the kind that allows a child to die of hunger in a world of surplus, or, of a perfectly treatable disease.
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one, I hope some day you'll join us and the world will be as one" - "Imagine" - John Lennon
The world I imagine is one where geography doesn't decide mortality, where every child is provided with basic healthcare, education and proper living conditions, and where you can't put a price on life.
"We must become the change we wish to see in the world" - Ghandi
"We would like to turn our song into a prayer, and the prayer is...that we don't become a monster in order to defeat a monster..." - Bono

My Interests

Just the same basics as everyone else I suppose - hanging about with my mates and having a laugh, having a good night out when I can and just enjoying life.
I love music, I'm very set in my way about what I listen to but I like to believe that music should either communicate a really powerful message or it should just be something you can go mad and lose yourself to. Love going to gigs - nothing beats the thrill of live music played by a top quality band!
I also love watching football, don't expect me to play it though, I'm shocking. I'm a Birmingham fan, which isn't as painful as it used to be.
I'm also interested in doing what I can to aid poverty relief. It's something I really wanna be involved in, in any way I can, in the future.

I'd like to meet:

Movies:

I love a bit of everything - comedy, action, adventure and sci -fi. Star Wars, Stargate, Lord of The Rings, X-Men, Spiderman, Saving Private Ryan, Pirates of the Caribbean, Memento, Batman Begins, Stardust, 300, The Bourne Trilogy, Sweeney Todd, Dodgeball, The Da Vinci Code, The Simpsons Movie, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Dumb and Dumber, Something About Mary, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks I & II, Terminator I & II, King Kong...too many to think of off the top of my head

Television:

Stargate Atlantis, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Heroes, Life on Mars, Family Guy, Extras, Monty Python, Father Ted, Reno 911!, Phoenix Nights, Alan Partridge and Blackadder....can't beat a bit of Top Gear either

Books:

I really like to read, a lot of it has to be non-fiction because of Uni studies, but I get the time to read a bit of fiction: The Four Loves, The Screwtape Letters, Angels and Demons, The Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, Timeline, Jurassic Park, The Lost World
Geldof In Africa
is an amazing book - full of witty and touching little stories

Heroes:

Bono and Bob Geldof: Bono is my role model, he's cool, charismatic and a really intelligent guy with a lot of compassion for those suffering in the world. I admire his confidence, his gift of the gab and the fact he doesn't take himself as serious as a lot of people believe.
Then there's Bob, he's no angel but he's a good man, loyal through heartbreak and he has such a strong determination, even when people criticise him
U2: Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam - The biggest band in the world, a band with a huge social conscience that constantly produces thought provoking music
Grant Nicholas: I admire his hard work and determination over the past 13 years, his courage to carry on the band after Jon's death and the fact that he is a bloody nice guy who devotes a lot of time to both War Child and Oxfam. He is a truly under-rated musician
I have so much respect for individuals who follow their principles, no matter the cost:
Mahatma Ghandi: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
Martin Luther King: "Free at last, they took your life, they could not take your pride" - U2
Nelson Mandela: "People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
Aung San Suu Kyi: "It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it."
Oh, and not forgetting the criminal mastermind that is baby Stewie Griffin:
"You know mother, they say life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get next. Your life, however, is like a box of ACTIVE GRENADES!!!!"
