Dj Kane Bligh
He's a Sydney residing New Zealander with one foot in Brazil, and his eyes on Asia. It's more than just a worldy backdrop - it's the foundation of his career, and picture of what's to come. Kane Bligh's love of cultural exploration, and his belief in music as the true universal language, will see him travelling across Asia, South America and Europe in the coming year.
A charismatic and cheeky DJ, Kane's presence behind the decks connects him with every pair of feet in the room - be it an exquisitely restrained opening set or a let-loose end to the night. Ranging from deep house and tech to electro and progressive, Kane's priority is creating fun on the dance floor.
Kane is the promoter behind Musica, a monthly event that in the space of a year has established a firm foothold in the Sydney scene. Musica has a reputation for bringing quality underground acts to Australian shores, with past headliners including Lee Burridge, Omid 16b, Rowan Blades, Oded Peled, Steve Gerrard, Ricky Stone, the 16 Bit Lolitas, D-Nox, and Pole Folder. With a new venue of unprecedented class in the pipeline, Musica is set to become a big budget monthly event unlike anything else on offer in Sydney.
One of Kane's career highlights has been the Skol Praia festival in Brazil. Invited to play an opening set, the reaction of the 6,000 strong crowd saw him slotted into two further gigs at the festival, including the closing set. He took home a love of Brazil and its people, and plans to split his time between Sydney and Brazil in the coming years.
In June 2006 his rising profile in the Sydney scene took a giant leap, when he was invited to open a Renaissance night in support of Hernan Cattaneo, PQM and Rowan Blades. The set was universally praised as a perfectly crafted opener for one of progressive's biggest names, and has opened big doors into Sydney's big parties.
Kane's reason for DJing is simple; to him, it is one of the last bastions of absolute pleasure. And his contagious energy ensures that every punter is swept along for the ride with him. Kane wants the whole room to take something away with them at the end of night, and every one of them - no matter which country he's in, or which time slot he is playing - knows that's what they'll get.
