Radical selfishness is essential for self-liberation.

About Me

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
~Marianne Williamson~
"This above all: to thine ownself be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." -Shakespeare-Hamlet

My Interests

Fewer than one in five of the millions of Africans in need of antiretroviral treatment are receiving it. Many millions are not even receiving treatment for opportunistic infections. These figures reflect the world's continuing failure, despite the progress of recent years, to mount a response that matches the scale and severity of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.

nine million faces. nine million names. nine million stories. nine million children are refugees right now. Help them play, let them learn.

I'd like to meet:

broad sense: free-spirited, down-to-earth, open-minded, compassionate, artsy, political folks who believe in something greater than self and live their lives with their eyes, minds, and hearts open....

specifically: sexy tomboys who won't mind letting me be the top...hipmamas...biblioheads...women who aren't their hair...dykes without labels...runners...eggplant lovers...Virgos who aren't Virgins...world travelers...those who speak other languages, incl. Ebonics...intellectuals who aren't stiff...dog lovers...soft men...soft women...folks with a sense of humor...dancers...teachers...those who love the written word...New Yorkers...someone to teach me how to swim....

Music:

Movies:

Love, love, love going to the movie house, especially when I'm able to munch on a large bag of unbuttered popcorn. I enjoy political films, Indie films, suspense/thrillers, dramas and some comedies. I don't do love stories, normally, but I am fond of Love and Basketball, Love Jones, and The Notebook.

Television:

Law and Order, Charmed (in syndication), and several reality shows (especially on MTV)

Books:

Prefer fiction when reading, and non-fiction when writing. Enjoy anything by the late Octavia Butler. Spent an entire summer reading only African American authors. Abhor romance novels, incl. the afrocentric genre. Particularly interested in realistic fiction that seeks to provoke thought, emotion and controversy.

Heroes:

"Be who you are and will be learn to cherish that boisterous black angel that brings you up one day, and down another."-Audre Lorde

"Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself." -Og Mandino
