About Me

Made with the MyTheme myspace editor
Shagg aka Da Sharpest Knife aka Dj Deliver and Dj AFX make up Tallkatz. The group linked up in 1988 and have been making beats and Deejaying ever since. Shagg has also been known to drop a verse periodically but focuses primarily on the music under the alias (Da Sharpest Knife)The crew grew up on opposite sides of New Haven, CT. They knew each other as Djs through word of mouth before becoming classmates in high school.Shagg was nice at making pause beats on cassette tapes. Dj Afx was working with a local emcee at the time. He decided to get several pause tape beats from Shagg.Throughout high school, group traveled to each others headquarters for DJ battle sessions. Shagg eventually started working on beats for fellow hometown emcees and began using the ENSONIC-EPS for early production. This was all that was needed. Beats were created by the dozens, daily.Dj Afx started to master the ENSONIC-EPS as well and the two were combining beats which doubled the volume. In 1990, the group connected with the fellow New Haven hip hop group(991 Volts), who had previously released the single "991 Volts of Noise" on B-Boy Records and "Champion Of Love" on Polygram/Mercury. A video was also released and the single was in rotation on local tri state area video shows such as (Ralph McDaniel's Video Music Box). Contract disputes between 991v and their management transpired and eventually resulted in the parting of both parties.Subsequently, Shagg and Dj Afx started supplying beats and banging out tracks with 991v with the mission to get a new buzz. Ultimately the group disbanded due to conflicts and the project came to a screeching halt. Shagg and Dj Afx moved on.The same year The two landed a spot, spinning on the hip hop radio show (The Power Hour) every saturdays. The show aired on Yale University's 94.3 WYBC and was hosted by Diamond D(not the rapper) and Homegirl Zeb. The two played many of there dirty EPS production on the show every week to create a buzz and called themselves (Funky Hoodz). In 1992, the two were tour djs on the EPMD Hit Squad tour which featured EPMD, Das Efx, Redman, Ksolo.Tallkatz continued to make beats for and with emcees such as The Reepz(RNF,763),Tracey Lee(RNF,763), The Earth, Prime Bangaz, Cloud, Screwface and others throughout the following years and also recorded several independent records. In 2007 the beats are still getting chopped. Check out tracks from Da Sharpest Knife, Dj AFX and Drubei Ke3ps....PEACE!
