Causing anarchy and rebelliousness while still being an exceptionally nice person

About Me

I'm a classical musician who's thinking about becoming a librarian. I like talking about gender and literature and I love nothing more than a really good drag king show. I hate writing these things because virtually everybody else sounds more clever and witty than I do. Ah well. I have a blog (of course) at www.extraneousness.blogspot.com where I generally express myself a lot more eloquently.

My Interests

Books (social theory, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, basically a lot of things), underground feminist performance artists, cooking veggie food, making zines, going thrift store shopping, eating at lots of different types of restaurants, drag kings and gender benders in general, PostSecret, the expanding horizons of contemporary music, social justice, bike rides, the lake, dancing while drunk at gay bars

I'd like to meet:

Ummm, not people with 15,000 friends who message me for no apparent reason. But old friends and/or people who actually have something to say are good.

Music:

Rasputina, Ani DiFranco, Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre, Bikini Kill, Julie Ruin (basically all Kathleen Hanna), almost all Beethoven, Sibelius symphonies, unaccompanied Bach, the Dolly Ranchers, Tegan and Sara, Dresden Dolls, Tilly and the Wall, PJ Harvey, Jolie Holland, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bitch and Animal, the Decemberists, the Shortbus soundtrack.

Movies:

bad lesbian movies, the more elusive good lesbian movies, John Cameron Mitchell... My movie knowledge has been skyrocketing lately. V for Vendetta, Stage Beauty, High Art, The Professional, Angels in America, Lord of the Rings, DEBS, Eddie Izzard... Stranger Than Fiction, Brick, Fur, The Fountain (I think).

Television:

The L Word (sigh), The Daily Show, Democracy Now! But really, I don't watch very much at all.

Books:

Inga Muscio, Alice Walker, Dorothy Allison, Sherman Alexie, Ed Abbey, Margaret Atwood, Barbara Kingsolver, Pablo Neruda, Daisy Zamora, Demetria Martinez, Sandra Cisneros. Michelle Tea, Michele Serros, Gary Snyder, Pam Houston, The Hours, Cherrie Moraga's Loving in the War Years... I also like Judith Butler (for all that she's almost impossible to read), bell hooks, Judith Halberstam, and I'm gaining an appreciation of Foucault. Jeffrey Eugenides' "Middlesex" rocked my world.

Heroes:

Alice Walker, Ani diFranco, Kathleen Hanna, Angela Davis, Leslie Feinberg, RuPaul, Dorothy Allison, Amy Goodman
