My Enemy EP (released 2005)
Self Produced
This release is a tight little, five track EP, that is a great introduction to the band My Enemy. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, My Enemy deliver to you a pop punk with attitude sound, that's both agreeable and not intrusive or overbearing. Each and every track is incredibly well written, and develops a sound all it's own. The band doesn't take this as an opportunity to change their sound on each track, it's that each track can stand out on it's own based on the merits of the catchy beats, great sing along choruses or the sheer energy felt on a song. I like the disc as a whole, and I could even imagine any of the tracks fitting in with some of the heavier hitters in the punk world, I'm specifically thinking of Blink 182, and the side projects that have been spawned from that breakup. My Enemy has a familiar sound, that approaches something like Boxcar Racer and very early Blink. Like I said, the album only has five tracks, but each one hits you solid in the chest with a good dose of catchiness, that's open and inviting. My Enemy's songs just suck you in, and you help but to enjoy yourself all the way through. I'm really looking forward to hearing more from My Enemy, because they certainly show a lot of potential on this disc. I got it now, My Enemy reminds me a bit of Dexter Danger...that's the ticket! There is a solid edge to both bands, but they provide the listener with a poppier sound than you would expect, but you enjoy it
and that's what really counts! -MG
