Big Cheese Magazine - 4/5 + Track on Cover CD

Mydriasis show that the UK underground has intelligent and experimental rock bands that aren’t afraid to at least try to break the mould. The swirling guitars and haunting vocals of opener “Open Shutters” give way to an explosive riff and soaring vocals on “Through the Cellophane”. This is melodic enough to go down well with the scene kids but also has more to it than your average haircut band. Taking influence from Tool, Glassjaw and the Mars Volta, their sound is more accessible but proves that this quintet is tight musically and accomplished on their instruments. “Shinrah Inc”, with it’s fast spoken parts, brings to mind At the Drive-in’s blazing “Invalid Litter Dept.” and the vocal melodies are often reminiscent of Daryl Palumbo at his most melodic. Proving that emo-tinged rock doesn’t have to be a simple sing along, this has time changes and drum fills which shows that a bit of thought and passion can make all the difference. More refreshing than 7up.:

Rocksound - 6/10 + KBY Band of the Month

"...Plenty of interesting sounds, unusual structures and weird times signatures pepper this record..."

:

"...Best described as leftfield post-hardcore, they keep the crowd’s attention with an array of intoxicating melodies and offbeat instrumental flourishes that occasionally encroach on Biffy Clyro territory...":

Subba Cultcha

"...With more layers than the Beckham’s wedding cake Mydriasis could easily be accused trying to be too clever, and they probably are, changes in pace, pitch, volume and depth all hit either end of the post hardcore spectrum...":

Altnation

"...the cover art features an etch-a-sketch...":

New Noise

"...It is hard, considering the array of moods and methods that this band employ, to figure out exactly who will really fall in love with this record but if invention, imagination and a little bit of attitude are your thing, then here’s introducing your new favourite band...":

More Haste More Speed - 3/5

"...Mydriasis bring a breath of fresh air to a genre that has become too obsessed with radio-friendly pop tunes and pin-up band members. ‘In Order of Appearance’ encapsulates all the best bits of prog, post-hardcore and even nu-metal to bring together what is an all round impressive piece of work, it may take two listens to fully appreciate, but this may well be the sound of the future for British post-hardcore bands....":
