ARTHUR HANLONBorn to Irish-American parents, pianist/songwriter/arranger Arthur Hanlon, hails from Detroit, Michigan (city that is most famous for its automobile plants) but found his calling in Latin music. An extraordinary talented musician, Arthur was trained at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City, from which he holds a Masters degree in piano performance. Arthur's music is a unique blend of Detroit street and virtuosity, Latin fusion and bluesy vibes. Arthur Hanlon began his affair with music at the tender age of six when just a few days before Christmas, and without warning from his parents, a grand piano arrived at his home. Moments later a professional pianist sat down and began playing it, an event that forever changed his life. He immediately thought of this piano not as an instrument, but as a person that had come to his house to stay eternally.
Following his high-school graduation he moved to New York, where he completed a postgraduate course in classical music. While in this city, Arthur fell in love with Latin music, seduced by it almost immediately; and even though at the time he knew virtually nothing of Spanish, the Irish-American man found his calling.
To this date he can't explain it "I don't know why or how but suddenly, I was surrounded by Latinos", remembers the musician. "I became kind of like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. I had a double personality. I was a classical musician by day and a tropical one by night." And little by little he learned to speak Spanish. The streets and clubs were witness to the first complete sentences in Spanish that passed through his mouth. "My teachers were Colombian, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, people from all over Latin America", affirms the proud musician.
In 1999, he moved to Miami, attracted by the great Latin movement and energy of this city. From then on he continued working on many projects, until one day Fonovisa Records offered him a contract, making it the first time the leading Latin record label signed a "gringo" as their exclusive artist.
Shortly thereafter, Arthur released his debut major label album "El Piano Amarillo," (The Yellow Piano) a critically acclaimed production that strongly anchored his bond with the Latin community.
"Arthur Hanlon: La Gorda Linda," is the follow-up to 2004's "11 Números Uno", an album that offers his rendition of treasured and unforgettable Latin melodies, such as "Si No Te Hubieras Ido" written by Marco Antonio Solis, one of today's most respected artists in Latin music. Other treasures included were "El Dolor De Tu Presencia", originally recorded by Jennifer Peña; Rafael Hernández's ever classic "Lamento Borincano", Joan Sebastian's "Secreto De Amor" and "Amigo" by Brazilian crooner Roberto Carlos. The album, produced by world-renowned Rudy Pérez, included 11 number one hits, plus 2 bonus tracks, the medleys "Ecos Del Amor" and "Fantasias", as well as an enhanced video that demonstrates the superb qualities in Arthur.
