Son of Giovanni 'Johnny Boy' Soprano, longtime figure in the bookmaking world of greater Newark NJ. I'm the acting boss of the DiMeo family. I head the most powerful criminal organization in New Jersey. I'm a second-generation wise guy, the son of the late Johnny Boy Soprano, a DiMeo capo who brought his boy into his profession and showed him the ropes. After Johnny's death, I was mentored by my old man's closest associates, Hesh Rabkin, Jackie Aprile, and Pussy Bonpensiero, as well as Johnny's older brother, Corrado "Junior" Soprano.You think it's easy being a boss, my personal life is a train wreck. My wife, Carmela, started moving forward with divorce proceedings, my daughter, Meadow, is barely speaking to me. My son, Anthony, Jr., is an undisciplined student and a lackluster athlete.It should come as no surprise why I'm back in therapy...I first went to see Dr. Jennifer Melfi for my debilitating anxiety attacks, which were similar to the ones suffered by my late father and now my son AJ. Despite the raised eyebrows of my associates, I have mostly stayed in therapy, albeit my own variety (which included trying to start a romantic relationship with his therapist.)The treatment - and a near-fatal gunshot wound courtesy of the now senile Uncle Junior - have led me to an awareness that life is fragile. My family life, and my sometimes tenuous relationship with my New York colleagues, I'm enjoying a newfound perspective. Despite the aggravations of everyday life, I'm making an effort to see every day as a gift, even if some days, the gift seems to be a pair of socks.
