“goodbyemotel successfully meld the sprawling Northern Soul-era of The Verve with the accessible musicality of Death Cab For Cutie, it’s not too bold a statement to say Goodbye Motel are one of the finest indie rock bands currently plying their trade in Australia†Inpress Magazine May 2007“The sound of this EP is the sound of a band capable of conquering the world†Jeff Jenkins Inpress Magazine April Melbourne
“This band is one to keep an eye on - Your new favourite band = goodbyemotel†Live Review The Brag, SydneyIn late Feb 2008 goodbyemotel hired a beach house on Victoria’s great ocean road and recorded their debut album. They begged and borrowed recording gear and spent 12 days recording their album by themselves. The album is now being mixed and will be released later in 2008.While bailed up in the beach house they also wrote a song “ Watching you†for The Oaktree Foundation’s “End child slavery†campaign. The song is featured in the campaigns national TV and MTV ads. It’s also being given away for free from their myspace site www.myspace.com/goodbyemotel to help raise awareness for the campaign. It also gave them a chance to play the End Child Slavery concert at Melbourne’s Docklands to 1500 kids along with Evermore and The Hampdens. It all started in 2006 when goodbyemotel started to take shape after members kept crossing paths in the local Melbourne music scene. Over the next few months the guys locked themselves away in a Melbourne rehearsal room and began developing their soundIn 2006 goodbyemotel released their debut EP “Informationâ€. The EP was well received at Australian radio and media. Goodbye Motel toured “Information†nationally throughout 2006.Come late 2006, it was time to record again. Producer Kalju Tonuma (Crowded House, Evermore, The D4, The Mavis’s) caught the guys at a show and they immediately decided to cut the EP together. They picked an old church converted into a studio in a back street in Collingwood, Melbourne to record and mix the 5 tracks for the new EP “End.Playâ€. “End.play†was mastered in New York by Howie Weinberg (Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana). For an independent band the thought of using a 51-piece orchestra seemed a little far-fetched. That is until conductor Ben Northey (Hilltop Hoods, The Whitlams) came across one of their songs “If this is the way out (then I am staying here)†and was so impressed, that he arranged a stirring piece to go with this last track; making the perfect ending for “End.Playâ€.Track 2 “All that bad†received airplay on Australian radio, along with indie and internet radio stations in the US and UK. “All that bad†was also released in the UK in October 2007 and Track 3 “Hell out of here†has been selected for a compilation CD being released in the US.“End Play†EP was released in Australia in November 2007 to rave reviews and a national tour.2008 will see the release of their debut album.Website: www.myspace.com/goodbyemotel or www.goodbyemotel.com
