Russel Fong: The Producer. This Brooklyn transplant is a dedicated student of his craft. As the production half of the Used Collect, Russel is a true example of a nightowl, working relentlessly through the night to refine his sound. Because of his dedication to his work and vast knowledge of nearly every musical genre, his sounds are wide in range. From the psychedelic to the sublime, the latin to the garage, Russel's many musical influences are woven into his songs. In particular, he holds a high regard for the art of sampling, which he uses powerfully in much of his music. As a producer, Russel has seen success in film, instrumental and hip-hop projects alike. However, the success he has had pales in comparison to the potential of this young talent.Ebbon Slept: The Lyricist. At the age of 16, Ebbon Slept (Ricky Umoff) was freestyling over Wu-Tang beats in smoky garages in his hometown of Goleta, CA. This unlikely rapper coming from a less than likely hometown for rappers continued to freestyle, write flows and record with friends for the next six years. Now, at the age of 23, Ebbon Slept is bouncing around CA and the globe. He and producer Russel Fong have formed a friendship and duo. As an accomplished spoken word poet ("Tourette's Without Regrets," "UCLA Slam" and "UCSC Slam") and burgeoning emcee, Ebbon is chomping at the bit to record, perform and progress. His lyrics, driven by a strong delivery, are designed to be thought-provoking, as well as socially and personally expressive. As he says in the song Scorpion Sun, "I'd rather trade my tongue with artists interested in reinvention."
