YOU'RE A ROCK N' ROLL SUICIDE....

About Me

LES BEATINGS RULE...OK!....HERE'S SOME REVIEWS.... From PUNK MAGAZINE (Reviewed By Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian, John Holmstrom, & The General) DAVE: With a classic "Ooo Ooo" chorus! Always a winner. Glammy, Gen-X sounding...THE CAPTAIN: Who's this? Sounds like Billy Idol - his Gen X period. Not bad for all that. Loads a Wo Wo Wo's and catchy lil' guitar lines. Better than a boot in the earhole. Bring back glam rock, that's wot I say. Billy Idol still owes me a fiver by the way....HOLMSTROM: "A" for effort for the packaging... I like the PUNK cover... this band put so much effort into their press kit that I think they could be a real contender some day. It's the kind of thing I noticed when I started PUNK magazine - the bands that pay attention to small details usually win out. And these guys definitely got our attention - there was no way we'd miss their CD at this party. So, I basically like this band....THE GENERAL: Sounds just like Britney Spears! I want to look down this band's shirt!....From Chuck Berry to Little Richard to the Stones to the Stooges to the New York Dolls to AC/DC to the Dead Boys to the Real Kids to The Joneses to The Humpers to The Devil Dogs to Supercharger to The Registrators to Loli & the Chones to The Beatings, great rock n’ roll artists have always had one thing in common: that magical mix of rhythm, energy, and raw sexual swagger that oozes from every note and allows you to forget your shitty life for a few minutes while you lose yourself in the infectious noise. Plain and simple... RUTLIDGE - NOW WAVE 'ZINE......The Beatings - "Kiss on the Cheek"+3 4 song 7" (Pelado) www.peladorecords.comBeautifully designed single pressed on pink marble. I wasn't sure whether to eat it, fuck it, or listen to it. I opted for the latter, and was richly rewarded with the Beatings signature glossy glam punk, in the blue-black vein of the Babysitters or the Speed Queens. Or American Heartbreak, if you're too young to know who the fuck I'm talking about. All the songs are hook-heavy, bleary eyed hits, but if you ask me, "Broken Shoe", with it's candy-coated Pistols riff and it's "woo-ooo" backing vocals, sounds the swankiest. All right, I'm gonna go have sex with this record now. SLEAZEGRINDER......The Beatings - "Ballad of Jimmy & Dean"/"Sex Beat" 2 song 7" (Wax) www.altamontrecords.comThere's a black werewolf in a Rattan chair spanking some foxy afro-mama's bare ass on the cover, so you can surely expect some freak powered love makin' music inside. Well, it turns out that "Ballad of Jimmy and Dean" isn't a ballad at all, it's a snotty Dead Boys-styled rocker with a rubber kneed, frizzle frazzle guitar solo slashing through the middle and some bubblegum chewing brats screeching out the backing vox. Righteous. The flip is Gun Club's classick all slathered in lipstick and dressed up in chicken bones. Another doubleshot of evil glitterpunk from Baltimore's raunchiest. SLEAZEGRINDER......*The (Baltimore City) Beatings, one of the planet’s greatest rock n’ roll outfits, unleash “Ghetto Blaster”, another trashed-out, glamtastic bad boy anthem. NOW WAVE MAGAZINE.....The Beatings, Love Life, Divining Rod, Candy Snatchers The Ottobar, Sept. 11 1999-09-22-feedback2 By Eric Allen Hatch -BALTIMORE CITY PAPERThe Ottobar celebrated its third year of existence by forgoing cake for a four-band sandwich with drunken pop punk as the bread and subtle indie up-and-comers as the mystery meat. It was a lively evening that appropriately highlighted some of the pros and cons of the tiny downtown club as a common ground for Baltimore's fractured punk scene. The Beatings took the stage at about 11 P.M. in pursuit of retro punk thrills. During catchy rockers such as "Medicine," it seemed everything was going to be fine. Even if some (big-haired) heads bobbed in sincere exaltation and some (closely cropped) from ironic kicks, bodies moved in unison at the Ottobar--a rare and good thing. But the lines were clearly drawn when the Beatings singer asked, "Who wants to hear more Beatings and who wants to hear some emo shit?"The emos had it. While "emo," a term for an increasingly stylized punk subgenre emphasizing emotional catharsis, doesn't accurately describe Love Life, it was an emo-ish crowd that packed the club to hear the band deliver sophisticated, jarring music that made many Beatings fans flee in bewilderment.....FROM INTERPUNK: Hailing from Balitmore MD, The BEATINGS are here to save rock n roll or at least give it a good kick in the ass. Maximum Rock n Roll called them a mix of The Stitches, The Bodies and U.S Bombs. While most other zines have called them a "more punk version of D Generation and the Black Halos". The Damned even reviewed them on the "PUNK" (yes the old NYC zine) web page and thought they sounded like Generation X and were impressed!! So either way you want to put it, they get compared to so damn great bands that are both old and new!! Pink Stars myspace layout
