About Me

amp.channelv.com/mailerdaemon - CHECK OUT MY TRACKS HEREMAILER DAEMON BIOBouncing like an overfull webmail account, emerging hip hop/electro producer Mailer Daemon draws on a rich collection of international flavours and genres to create his floor-shaking tracks; from South London to South East Asia, via Sydney’s vibrant club scene. Our story kicks off in Malaysia, where our hero amused himself playing drums for his older brother’s post punk band, Damn Dirty Apes, finding a great deal to inspire him in the restrictive political environment of Malaysia. Bubbling with passionate acts across an exciting spectrum, Malaysian underground bands are playing music that could see them locked up by the government, and Mailer Daemon thinks that’s pretty cool.Fast forward to 2001 - we find the young producer setting up shop in Sydney, Australia, creating beats and sound design for film under the title “Black Gallant Productions” with new partner Jimmy Evil. In between his work, Mailer hones his craft, hanging out at some of Sydney’s most exciting clubs and soaking up a mash of dance, hip hop, and indie rock, DJ’ing at places like PURPLE SNEAKERS, and putting a home studio together, seeking out vocalists and remixing work.Time passes, and Mailer finds himself working as the in-house graphic designer for influential Sydney labels CHATTERBOX RECORDS and TIMBERYARD RECORDS, in between working up sound for Government funded hip hop projects like 2007’s “Bring It”. After having independently completed remixing work for nationally respected acts like THE RED RIDERS (“Slide In Next To Me”) and THE VALENTINOS (“Rain”), as well as international stars like KAT HARTMAN (ex- BABES IN TOYLAND), Mailer Daemon has turned his creative eye to his solo career.Which brings us to the biscuit - Mailer Daemon meets South London MC SUPERBOMBA after a performance at Sydney’s influential DNB BBQ event, and it transpires that the vocalist has worked extensively in the Pirate Radio scene in the UK, as well as performing with D&B groups NATURAL BORN KILLERS and VICIOUS CIRCLE. The two hit it off, and decide to work together.Mailer Daemon produces two thick club tracks “Never Let It Go” and “New Sense”, bringing a South East Asian spice to his guest vocalist aggressive UK style. It’s not world music; the balls-out electro-inspired synths, crushing bass lines and intense rhythm drops take care of that. The thunderous keyboards on “Never Let It Go” nod to crunk and hyphy without ever playing copy cat, while “New Sense” samples clattering Indian loops a’la Timberland, turning them into a flat-out, half-time dancefloor stalker. Murder! On these two embryonic track, Mailer Daemon reveals himself as a young producer on the verge of creating an idiosyncratic fusion of East and Western style of hip hop - a thunderous, menacing sound all his own.JAKE STONE – (Rolling Stone)
