I am here for Friends

About Me

My name is Martin, but people call be Mauve. I am 30. I am a Goth and enjoy everything dark, Gothic, and macabre. I am a musician and a writer.

My Interests

I like writing, reading, music (playing and listening), having fun, going to Whitby Goth Weekend twice a year, and being a Goth

I'd like to meet:

Fellow Goths.

Music:

I think music should be primarily concerned with human beings communicating on a series of different levels. Therefore, I think it should be produced by human beings with musical instruments and not be generated solely by a box with knobs and dials and switches. The music I like is: Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, The Doors, Hawkwind, Black Sabbath, Nick Drake, Nick Harper, Deep Purple, Rainbow, The Moody Blues, The Beatles, Free, Genesis, and some classical and prog rock, jazz and blues.I like honest music, which is well played by people, has atmosphere and life about it, and moves the emotions.

Movies:

My favourite actors include Peter Sellers, Michael Caine, Vincent Price, and Dick van Dyke.My favourite film director is David Lean.My favourite films include The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly; Bullitt; any David Lean films; any films with the above actors in them; and I like a lot more also.

Television:

TV is largely a load of rubbish. I like some programmes, but have an intense dislike for celebrities, makeover programmes, property and auction programmes, fly-on-the-wall documentaries, soaps, and other derivative and facile crap like that. Why is this a category anyway?!

Books:

Ha ha ha!! Books, eh? Well, I spent nine years at university studying English literature, so I've read all the classic works of English literature. If you want to know if I've read something, it's probably best to ask, because this part would run to thousands of words!!At the moment I'm reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, Israfel by Hervey Allen (a biography of Poe which I'm using as part of the research for my next novel), Goth Chic by Gavin Baddeley, and a biography of Kenneth Williams - I always have a few on the go at any one time.

Heroes:

My heroes are largely involved in music and literature, films and comedy. My literary heroes are the Romantic poets, the Modernist novelists, Edgar Allan Poe, Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens, and George Orwell. My musical heroes are mostly guitarists: Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Dave Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore, Nick Drake, Nick Harper; but I also like Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, and Roger Waters. My film heroes are: Peter Sellers, Michael Caine, David Lean, Clint Eastwood, and Humphrey Bogart. My comedy heroes are: Monty Python, Peter Cook, Peter Sellers, Rowan Atkinson, and the Father Ted ensemble.
