I like all the Steinbeck stuff I've read, Cannery Row, To a God Unknown Tortilla Flats, Of Mice and Men, Da Vinci code (kinda generic but it was good) Under the Banner of Heaven (should be required reading in school) The Things They Carried was really good too. Monkey Wrench gang, just read it, really good... chasing ghosts was the latest... good and easy to read.
