Not many people can say they’re able to switch professions four times a week. But that’s exactly what Toronto-based director, photographer, rapper and producer Lucqi Chade is doing. Chade, who got the name because of his versatility, began his career as a rapper. And although he tells a story in every song, the 24-year-old focuses primarily on talking about topics that he believes will connect with the world, but rapping, which he first dabbled in seven years ago, also progressed into producing. His beat making includes everything from soulful samples to South-inspired hard-hitting production. As if those two talents weren’t impressive enough Chade is also a student at the Toronto Film School and will soon be able to add director to his extensive resume. The experience at the school is also allowing him to multi-task, as he will release his video for his first single Cocky in early 2008. But that’s not the remarkable part, not only does he spit on the track, Chade also produced the song and directed the video. The entrepreneur also has an amazing eye for originality, as evidenced in his photography. He’s already making noise in the city with demands to be photographed by local entertainers and his work appearing in the fall issue of Toronto-based urban magazine CreamWorld.
