About Me

My profile was customized using the Taming the Beast.net MySpace Layout Generator
Formed in mid-2004, The Slant is a combination of two very talented groups of musicians. Singer Mark Zedonek and guitarist Mike Kamper, formerly of Atlas, combined with bassist Brad Austin and drummer Zach Dow of The Blue Squares to form a new and unified group with the goal of creating a kind of music that seemed to be missing from the main stream. With the addition of Andre Costello in 2007 as a "utility musician," The Slant found a new line up that offers a variety of musical stylings.
Beginning in early 2005, The Slant wrote and recorded "Animatraminal: The Mechanical Animal," a feel-good album with roots deep in classic and indie rock. After Animatraminal, a different sound was desired by all, and out of the writing process came the band's second release entitled "Paralaramose." Though the sound of this record was reminiscent of Animatraminal, it was much different and brought the group into a new realm of musical experimentation.
In the early winter of 2007, The Slant began recording a third cd, entitled "Animanatomy." Once again, they found a sound that was a perfect blend of folk, rock, and.. who knows what else. In a genre some have described as "freak-folk," The Slant has transformed itself through the stylings of different harmonies and various instruments, such as banjo, mandolin, and harmonica, while still sticking with good old fashioned electric guitar. "Bad Seed," "This Old Bridge," and "Come Home" have all recently been added from Animanatomy for your listening pleasure, and keep in touch with this site in the future for upcoming shows and opportunities to purchase cds.
