About Me

Name: Mavin MC; Vivid; Rafael; Rafa
Since recording freestyles on his karaoke machine with his cousin in the fifth grade, Mavin MC aka MC Vivid of Illuminous 3, the 21 year old lyrical master mind from the south side of Minneapolis has always had a strong passion for creating music. He experimented with a number of different instruments, and eventually decided to stick with his voice and producing beats. He then re-connecting with two elementary school friends Franzdiego and Freez in 2001, and they formed the three man crew Illuminous 3 which started his career in hip hop. After recording freestyle sessions and writing songs after school, Illuminous 3 linked up with Toki Wright and YO! The Movement to perform their first show. Since then, they have been performing at venues all across the Twin Cities. Ill 3 would soon become the youngest hip hop crew in Minneapolis with the most potential, opening up for acts such as The Black Eyed Peas, Brother Ali, Slick Rick, Delinquent Habits, MC Lyte, The Alkaholiks, and many more. Through their independent label, Bedroom Studios Productions, Ill 3 released three mixtapes and is currently putting the finishing touches on their first full length album "Room" which will be releasing spring 2008. Although Illuminous 3 is still a solid unit each member has always supported each other as solo artists, while Room was pretty much finished as far as writing and recording, Mavin used the extra time to create two solo projects of his own. His first project, "Mavin MC presents: The Twin Cities Finest from the Great Lakes To La Isla", an exclusive compilation cd of Twin Cities artists, was created to develop a stronger relationship between hip hop in Minneapolis/St. Paul and hip hop in Puerto Rico. He also felt by connecting with the scene in PR, it would be a perfect opportunity to learn more about his Puerto Rican heritage, and get to know his family. After Melisa Riviere and Maria Isa of Emetrece Productions introduced Mavin to the hip hop scene in PR, he immediately made his connects at the Express Your Skills hip hop conference in Canovanas and handed out 200 copies of the compilation. While he was in Puerto Rico, he linked up with Lil Man and his crew Six Fyve to write and record the track "Basic" Produced by Pun. Since Mavin's trip, he's been shipping out copies of his compilation to his connects in PR, working on volume 2, and he will be performing at the Express Your Skills hip hop conference in April 2007. Mavin MC’s second and most recent project, the Craftmaster EP, released on December 22nd, 2006, is his first official solo record. His focus on this project was to demonstrate his many styles, concepts, thought provoking lyrics, and overall rhyme skills, while incorporating a number of different producers and featured artists. His single “Give it to ‘em” is currently in rotation at local Twin Cities radio stations 89.9 KMOJ, 90.3 KFAI, 89.3 The Current, and 106.5 770 Radio K. His EP includes features by TheWholeTruth, his entire crew The Chosen Few, and Bony Limburg with production by Benzilla, King Karnov, Greg Envy, and Mavin MC himself. With a combination of different stories, opinions, personal struggles, fun and exciting vibes all put together with an aggressive and concise delivery, the Craftmaster EP is a strong introduction to Mavin MC as a solo artist. Currently, Mavin is recording his full length LP with King Karnov, making beats, and striving to become a hip hop legend. From freestyling and hard hitting punch line tracks, to soulful and conscious songs, Mavin MC delivers quality music for everyone to vibe to, while bringing one of the Twin Cities’ most electrifying performances.
