Heavyweight Records is an American hip hop/rap record label, that was founded in 2005 in Akron, Ohio by Demond “J.Sphinx†Dobson. The label is independently owned by Heavyweight Entertainment Group and is on its way to becoming a musical juggernaut. Heavyweight Records has a very talented staff and roster that is committed to quality music and making classic hip-hop music. Heavyweight Records CEO Demond “J.Sphinx†Dobson is also the labels first signed artist. He will be releasing his debut album and the labels first release entitled Birth of a Pharaoh in the 2 quarter of 2008. Heavyweight Records is also committed to proving itself as a dominate force in music with a diverse roster and talented production team there are endless possibilities to what this label can achieve. This label has a mixtape featuring J.Sphinx, Celsius, and D.A. 3 just to name a few. This label has a very dynamic approach to their music and overall production style. Their music is also reminiscent of the earlier hip-hop movement that was lead by Nas, Common, Kool G Rap and Slick Rick. They go against the grain with their music and aren’t willing to give up the integrity of it for mainstream success. This label is all about staying true to their artist and keeping the music honest, fun, and memorable. Their purpose is to speak to the masses and reach out to the fans of real hip hop that want more than sing-a-long rap songs with lackluster lyricism. They are for the fans that want to keep hip hop alive. Nas says that hip hop is dead and looking at the current state of hip hop it very well could be. Heavyweight Records is what the game has been needing and waiting for. They aren’t here to resurrect hip hop they're hear to save it. Hip hop ain't dead yet but it is on life support.
