The Louisiana Purchase

Bad Livers and Broken Hearts

About Me

-The Louisiana Purchase was born out of Saturday country jam night at Pony Boy and Soda Pop's house The Death Trap (29 Custer St.). Soda Pop and Pony did a two piece acoustic cover gig called the Kevin McCarthy Experience for a few years. Mostly a drunk party gig. As they were getting more and more into old country music they also started playing it more. Thanx to Nick Nebraska we had a gut bucket and were learning the ropes on the ol' washboard also. Usually this would take place on their front porch accompanied by a few cold ones. The Purchases first official gig was at a fall gathering at the Rinestien Woods Nature preserve. Still just Pony and Soda Pop at this point belting out mostly covers and traditional songs about Whiskey and Women, broken hearts, and all sorts of appropriate topics for their predominately child audience. Strangely enough they weren't asked to come back.
The next chapter of The Purchase added A.W. Shucks and his catalog of songs. A.W. writes em' real perty and drunk like, just how we like em'. I was a little drunk for the next few months of this so i'll do my best here with the history. Then came Gore Nemesis on the Bass guitar and the deep vocals, as well as Joey Bulldozer as the washboard player, and Lil' Benji on the snare. At this point the Purchase was a regular porch burner and ready to take it to the kids. We played our first full band show on new years 2005 at 26 Richmond in Buffalo at about 2 in the morning. The Beer was flowing and we were a freight train bound for the heart of everyone in the room. It's amazing how many punks will sing a country song even if they don't know it.
Shortly after, Bulldozer left us for Tucson (it get's em' all), and Ms. Cherry joined up as the new washboard player and only sex appeal of the band. We've done a whole bunch of gigs since.
I took The Purchase on as a solo project for about a year which was fun, but the heart of this band is getting together with some sweet dudes chewing tobacco drinking a few beers and playing some great music. Whether its at my house, yours or a bar that's what it has always been about. So, I have rebuilt the band and we are riding again. Pat has returned on Bass, Jim Colby has joined me on vocals and some fancy picking on the guitar, and Greg my favorite restaurant owner and friend has joined us on Banjo. Joey T has also picked up his mandolin and joined our ranks making us an even five piece. Our songs are sounding mighty pretty lately hopefully you'll get to see us soon.
That's all for now, and good lord willing the creeks don't rise we'll be seeing y'all real soon.
Broken hearts and Bad livers,
Pony Boy
