David Noone began his musical career in collaboration with Paul Murphy under the title Poppy. They wrote a number of songs and played in many venues around Dublin, including The Mezz, The International Bar and Eamon Dorans.
Paul made a sudden departure from the group and David took Poppy on the road as a semi solo act with the use of his eight track, Dr. Benway. The sets played at the time were a mixture of white noise mumblings, acoustic ballads (murder and others) and accapello showtunes.
The lack of a band challenged David's approach to songwriting and he soon started utilising objects he found in his flat (broken ashtrays, stools, guitar cases, whiskey bottles). The songs 'Story I heard from a taxidermist' and 'If Needs Be' were written during this period.
With David's new style of song writing, mostly bass and percussion driven work, the band name no longer seemed suitable due to the almost complete musical shift. Poppy were no longer a part of the present but a document of the past.
The Night Porters including percusionists Vitor Oliveira (currently being schooled in how to play chair), Simone Porto and bassist Walter Schmit (now sadly departed from the band and living happily in Berlin) have been invaluable in realising the rather skewed ideas of which David is now untilising along with new members Ferrau Lynch and Emmanuel Abanese the sound is now growing further. The sounds used constitute a wide range of aural and lyrical subjects from car crash love songs to throw away pop/cabaret bubblegum. All this considered we hope you enjoy David's style and approach to what he feels fit to display.
David has also appeared at many spoken word events around the country and has had his poetry published by Doghouse Books
